Tbf 4 & 6 represent earlier pronunciations. The H was not silent in the past. And aks for ask is also an older form.

This and your last post have absolutely nothing to do with what I posted I strongly believe you misunderstood what was being asked and therefore what my response was in regards to.

Look at how post #43 was in response to the -of option. You asked how it should be said. Obviously things like would of, could of, etc. are mistakes, so I said how I theyre supposed to be said: would have, and should have.

Although tbh the way you worded post #47 contributed to the Ruby face. I'm still a bit confused as to what you meant without some indication of what goes where and what's referring to what.

Sorry I am confused, are you saying (couldve) is pronounced (could have)? the poll was saying (could of) should be (could have), but (couldve) is said the same as (could of), and (could've) even though pronounced like (could of) still means (could have) as it is a contraction of the words. So I dont see how they are as you put them mistakes.

I admit I may have misunderstood post 43, but I am not sure what part of it sickens them the poll option winning or it being said that way.

As for post 47 I was trying to give examples of contractions like (he'd) which is short for (he would), and/or (he had), but is pronounced like (heed) not (he would) even though that is what it can stand for.

(Can't) is short for (cannot), but you dont pronounce (can't) as (cannot). Hopefully this clears up what I was saying.

As long as I can receive the context of what the person is trying to say, I can ignore trainwrecks of pronunciation. The message is more important to me.

I mean both of these are wrong, but I don't really care about them. It's just that the mispronunciation of karaoke is so horribly wrong that it annoys me more than the other things listed.

I mean..I'll put this out there, japanese is by no means the only language americans can't pronounce correctly (or even close to the phonetic sound). So I don't know why you'd be so conflicted about the word karaoke in particular.

I guess because I'm full Japanese, raised in a Japanese household with Japanese speaking parents in a state with the most Asians per capita, and thus know the language well enough to be a bit annoyed by such horrid mispronunciation? I know that so many words get mispronounced all the time. And I'm sure that people of those cultures cringe a little inside too when they hear the verbal butchering of their language.

But mainly like I said, because it's so horribly mispronounced. I'll take an-ee-may, kah-muh-kah-zee, foo-gee, and all that other shit without blinking an eye.

Actually wait, I needed to start from scratch rather than editing my last post.

What I'm trying to say is that I was just listing the proper non-shortened forms. Post #43 was saying how he disliked the "-of" error. When you asked how it should be said, I posted the proper way, which is "-have". The thing is that "could of" is always a mistake, which is why I put "could have" in response to your post.

Last two paragraphs I'm still confused about. Like I know what you're saying, but not what relevance they have.

Oh well, I don't. More than just awareness that they said it hilariously incorrect. Since I know most accents that people develop by speaking a certain language their whole life make pronounciation of other language words difficult.

Nope.

Category V It usually takes 88 weeks or 2200 hours to reach S-3/R-3 proficiency in these languages. This small group of super-hard languages includes Chinese (Mandarin), Cantonese, Japanese, Korean and Arabic.

Also, people who pronounce "water" like there's an "o" in it. No sir, that is an "A".

Ok you were listing the non shortened version. I was talking about the shortened versions so we were just arguing two different things it seems. The last two paragraphs were me giving examples of shortened forms of other words as examples of contractions.

I am definitely not the best at expressing myself in text (or speaking honestly) so I do apologize.

This is accurate, and it looks like a nice simple way to learn. The way I was taught was a sort of weird different "song". Because Japanese follows the vowels A, I, U, E, O, most syllables are just a consonant plus one of those vowels. So there was a rhythm that went

A Ka Sa Ta, Na Ha Ma Ya, Ra Wa N

Those are the beginning syllables for the Japanese alphabet, and each one will continue with the vowels. Example:

A > I > U > E > O
Ka > Ki > Ku > Ke > Ko
Sa > Shi > Su > Se > So

And so forth. Unfortunately it's not meant to be a 100% guide since there are things like Chi and Tsu, or the W's or Y's.

Maybe I need to be super specific: Japanese is one of the easiest languages to learn to PRONOUNCE. Didn't think I needed that in a topic about pronunciation, but I guess people can be that daft...
