No one in Fallout talks about the difficulty of getting salt in the wasteland

this is something I've come to appreciate about some webtoons (comedy ones, at least).

some character is sent to some fantasy world, with post-apocalyptic conditions, and they inexplicably become OP because of some glitch or obscure build, and sometimes, they get really into cooking and do what they can to replicate foods and flavors that they have been missing.

well in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Max does use one of those geiger counters to check if the water is infested with radiation

There's that scene in the Matrix when they're eating that protein gruel or whatever.

There are scenes in later seasons where they are stunned to have things they haven't in years. Cookies, movies, cake, etc.

They can still make them. You just need to be somewhere special like Alexandria, Hilltop, Kingdom, Negans place, the Commonwealth, etc.

I assume the constant worrying of getting bit by the undead or getting radiation makes bad food a nothing burger

There's a difference between, "Oh, we haven't had cake in years."

And, "Our day-to-day food is just bland as fuck because we don't have spices."

What always bugs me is everyone having perfect clean clothes in the apocalypse.

good call. just a little line or two from a random NPC like "i didn't appreciate salt until after the war, food hasn't tasted the same" could have been really cool and added some lore

Even if you were growing your own vegetables and meat, it would indeed kind of suck not having spices. First world post-apocalyptia problems

They usually don't bring up medicine dependency either. Anyone heavily reliant on insulin for example would be dead not long after a year even if they stockpiled a lifetime supply of it because whats left will eventually expire.

You have been so tainted by Capitalism, that you don't realize that there are thousands of herbs, and spices -- how do you cope without knowing the taste of Sorrell (Rumex acetosa, not Hibiscus sabdariffa -- which almost everyone has tasted), or the deliciousness of Stinging Nettle Soup? Or the juiceness of muzwilu (Vangueria infausta)?
(All of which most people haven't had because they're not profitable to cultivate.)

Easily. It's the same in the post-apocalyptic world.

There are so many spices, just growing everywhere, in a post-apocalyptic landscape (unless it's nuclear) you'd have no issue finding spices or herbs for every meal, they just might not be the herbs or spices you are used to -- but Sorrell is fine with Salmon, and Stinging Nettle Soup is just as good as Cabbage/Spinach Soup.

When youre hungry enough, even bland food tastes good though.

Food is scarce in apocalyptic settings so it would likely always taste good enough.

To be fair, those people would be dead, so there'd not be much to talk about lol.
