It was because when Carol Danvers first showed up in the MCU, it was being implied that she would be more powerful than the Avengers, with barely any build up. People didn't like someone new just appearing out of nowhere and taking the spotlight

Endgame showed later that she wasn't as strong as people feared. She is fine. She's unliked by people in the comics too. The character is meant to be abrasive. She was the villain in Civil War 2. She isn't perfect. If she had single handedly solved Endgame, it would be a problem, but it didn't happen

But, just no. She was making a statement about how the vast majority of critics are white men. This is a fact, and of course that can impact things. Look at why the Academy and the Globes had to be pushed to have actual diversity in their voting bodies.

She never said "Most critics are white men" let alone "most professional critics are white men" she said she didn't care what white men thought and declared movies as "not for white people" to invalidate their views

As eye roll inducing as that is, kinda both directions I guess, that's a weird reason to suddenly be hyper critical of a person's acting ability and any movie they star in if it's not something you apply to every other performer and movie. Her quote about A Wrinkle in Time made complete sense to me. The movie was made, at least in part, to provide role models to disenfranchised groups.

Due to history and systematic issues, comments about white people can't be held to the same exact standard as comments about black people, for instance.
