Just beat Phalanx.

This (and Elden Ring) are the two souls games I haven't yet played. I love going back to these primitively designed areas. Boletaria Palace is tightly designed and essential for a newcomer. It's clear how much of a spiritual successor Dark Souls is.

Phalanx went down without much hassle but I can understand how newer players would get absolutely slotted.
But it's necessary because the fight teaches you spacing, precision, timing and using the environment to your advantage. The fact that the game drops shit loads of firebombs and pine resins is a clear clue to be using fire against them.

I'm playing a Mage/melee character so I'm going to hopefully meet a Sorcery teacher soon.
I'm assuming those 3 people that show up in the nexus sell you miracles. My faith is 6 so I take it they won't sell me shit.

Have a feeling you get magic from Tower of Latria so I'm going there next.

It's a great game, though I don't care for much in Elden Ring.

Played through the prison of hope in the Tower of Latria and I guessed right. Rescued Sage Freke, defeated Fools Idol and got a sweet as Soul Ray or whatever it's called.
I missed the saving Rydell. Explored everywhere and I couldn't find a key to his cell. Hopefully it's in the next Latria area.

Decided to tackle Depaved Chasm and I fucking hate this area. My problem with games looking this good is there seem to be a lack of visual clarity. I'm constantly getting confused and falling off the level into my death. And don't get me started about that absolute bullshit 5 hit kombo the enemies here can do.
I got to Leechmonger which doesn't seem like a hard boss but the leechballs basically 2 shot me and dying means I have to run back through what I would arguably call the worst runback in a base souls game.
I really hope Im missing something and the runback isn't this obnoxious.

If you can put up with the PleASE, heLP MEeeee, HRRGGGHHHHH, you can put up with this.

So far im learning that all the boss runbacks are absolute bullshit.
It's not that the boss fights are even that hard. It's that you spend 20 minutes getting back to the boss so you're nervous and then you panic and inevitably get one shot and it's the dreaded run back again.

Yeah the boss runs in DeS can be brutal.

Either you're missing opening up a shortcut or you gotta stop fighting everything on every run back. No boss should take too long to get back to. Like maybe 5 minutes, which still sucks but it shouldn't be awful

4-2 is maybe the second worst boss run in the series next to horse fuck valley in DS2

Edit actually maybe third or fourth since blue smelter demon and the katana guy are worse runs

Demon's Souls is my favorite right next to Bloodborne. The way each level is completely unique to the others and how obtuse and fucking weird it is really elevates it for me. That and the world tendency system really make it stand out

Elden Ring had me hooked for 95 hours and then really pissed me off by the end. Sekiro did the same

Yeah, that 4-2 boss run suuuuuucks. Also, World 5 just sucks ass in general. I really like most of the rest of the game.

I remember on PS3 raging as well because it was full of the blue eyed knights that fuck you in tight quarters when you try and run past.

Yep, and if you don't take care of the dragons then boy you're in for hell. I made that run so, so many times

Own it but I suck so hard at the game, I have no idea wtf else to do to git gud because the attribute system is primitive compared to DS3, Bloodborne, and ER.

Fuck the level design too, holy moly soooo many goddamn hazards...

If you're having trouble just make a mage, magic was stupid OP in DeS. Firestorm spam nukes everything

Gonna have to do this. It was my dumbass fault for even thinking a strength/faith build would be successful. Top 3 gorgeous fucking game of this gen tho.

You can tell TC to look things up online if he gets desperate enough, you don't have to directly feed him the sure-fire strat. Let some of the wonderment stay intact at least.
