I've used her a lot, so I can definitely see why. Early units just have too much attachment built up by then. Even if John Archer sucks, he's my John Archer. Those later recruits should stop trying to ride off the coattails of my squad's success and sit on the bench where they belong. In a sense the whole game is leading up to your team being ready (or not) for the final chapter. Of course if you know what you're doing you can probably beat it even with an unprepared team.
