Disgusting, and limiting the compensation anyone can receive for wrongful imprisonment is all kinds of fucked up.

Who pays out that money? The jurors?

A million for every year spent imprisoned. Minimum.

The saddest part is he'll likely die or end up back in prison before ever seeing that kind of money, think about it, he's a convicted felon, renters and hiring managers aren't gonna care he didn't actually do it, they'll see "wow, this guy was in jail for 31 years" and toss his application and of course with how states love to come up with bullshit reasons to throw people who serve their time back in prison even if they're model citizens I don't have much hope for him not getting screwed over by that process as well.

It's fucked up, it's cruel as hell and the powers that be do not give a single fuck, not the media, not the governing body and especially the people in the justice system who put this man behind bars likely knowing he wasn't the guilty one.

At minimum, someone should receive the yearly average salary of the state for each year served to compensate for potential money that could have been made had their time not been stolen from them. Then there should be more on top of that.

Tennessee continues to be a piece of shit state.

I'm glad they set it up so he's getting an annuity out of the rest of the payout. Having all that money at once would be a recipe for disaster. Hopefully somebody manages that money well.
