Apologies for yet another Pokemon topic, but I figured since a lot of people are talking about Pokemon right now, I figured to ask.

It is safe to get Pokemon Scarlet/Violet now? What I mean is, have they patched the game such that the bugs and other problems during release are fixed? Just wondering. I may get the game soon after all.

Its not as bad as the people who were crying foul Arv has it yes theres stuff that happens but it doesnt hinder the experience and there was some videos Arv seen where people were purporsely trying to trigger glitches yes theres stuff that happens unwarranted but if you like Pokmon and know what to expect from a next gen Pokmon game(besides bugs) then youd like it

Bugs are there but they were pretty much blown out of proportion. Only really had one bug from my play of Violet and that was easily fixed

I've been playing since day 1 and found the bugs and glitches weren't enough to hamper gameplay. Sure, it's funny that you can see through the floor at a certain angle. That's how most games were in the 90s. Yeah, there's some funny lazy graphical stuff. Personally, I've been enjoying the game a lot.

the open world looks like total ass but it's an alright game

the plot actually gets pretty great near the end, and arven is a great character

I haven't played it, but this has been roughly my understanding. The level of quality control is utterly pathetic and Gamefreak should be ashamed of pushing out such a clearly unfinished product, but they generally don't interfere with people's ability to enjoy the game, and in some ways almost add charm/entertainment value.

To be fair, Monolith is staffed entirely by absolute wizards of optimization, given what they've been able to squeeze out of the Wii, WiiU, and Switch with each Xenoblade game. They aren't necessarily a standard to which other studios can be reasonably held.

That said, there are plenty of other games on the Switch that also look much better than S/V and the only reason S/V looks like it does is because Gamefreak was too incompetent/lazy/rushed to put in the optimization work it would need to look and run better. It doesn't necessarily need particularly HD textures, since that's not the art style they're going for, but the environments are pretty barebones and still perform horribly despite not having much going on.

Though the game lacks some polish, they did do some really neat things. Little animations that can get missed. Like Palossand melting when it rains, Gastrodon never looking at you, and Taurus using its three tails to swim They were a few others. People have been posting videos about them So, while its not the best polished game, they did out at least some care into it

My impression isn't so much that they didn't care about the game as it is that they were given an impossible production timeline, given their inexperience with 3D games, open worlds, and many of the other things they tried to incorporate that Pokemon simply hasn't done before. S/V were quite ambitious, in a lot of ways, and ambition is hard to reconcile with deadlines that are based entirely on getting merchandise on the shelves and care very little for the realities of game development.

I skipped Pokemon after Gen IV - this is the first generation that I've bought and played through entirely since then, and it's way more fun than what I saw in Sword/Shield, Sun/Moon, X/Y...I still totally understand the criticisms, but for me this one is a lot more fresh than all the prior 3D ones. Except Arceus, which pulls off the technical process better but lacks a bit of the fluid open world that Violet/Scarlett has.

The only salient metric for whether or not a franchise is alive is sales, and S/V have set sales records for the franchise. Whether or not it's good is much more subjective, as is whether or not you want to play the games, but dead/alive is an objective assessment, and Pokemon is objectively very much alive.
