In the original Super Mario Bros., Mario doesn't actually fight Bowser eight different times in those eight worlds. The first seven "Bowsers" that Mario encounters are decoys, and their true form can be revealed by defeating them with fireballs rather than using the axe to destroy the bridge. For instance, in World 1 the "Bowser" turns into a Goomba upon being defeated with fireballs.

The real Bowser doesn't show up until World 8.

In your first meeting with Caesar in Fallout: New Vegas, there's unique introductory dialogue that he'll open with if you're technically friendly with him as per the Mark of Caesar, but have completed enough side quests that undermine the Legion's agenda (such as breaking their alliance with the Khans, or rooting out the saboteur at McCarran). He will mention these subversive acts in sequence, and call you a fool for thinking you can get away with waltzing into his camp after committing them; your character will claim the Mark as protection, to which Caesar again will call you a fool for thinking that stupid trinket will protect you after everything you've done, and tell you to prepare yourself to die...and then say 'nah, I'm just fucking with you,' and proceed on to business as normal.

This happened to me for the first time on my most recent NV playthrough - I'd consider myself an expert at the game combat-wise, but I was NOT prepared to fight my way out of the Legion camp (especially considering that most of my weapons had been confiscated), and I was getting very nervous right up until the 'gotcha' moment.

World of Warcraft is run by invisible rabbits. NPCs already have the ability to do most of the things that need to be done in the game. So if a boss spawns a laser turret, that turret is actually an invisible rabbit "casting" the laser spell. If you want a quest objective that's not killing something like picking up an item, performing that action spawns and kills an invisible rabbit that ups your quest completion.

They actually approached them for a merger as early as 2000, but The Spirits Within bombing made them back off of it for a few years.

However, there was a single F-Bomb you could find in VC, written on a poster in Phil Cassidy's trailer (can't remember the exact wording; haven't played the game in over a decade and google isn't being helpful).

The dude who voices Toad in MK64 (Isaac Marshall) only has done voice work for that one portrayal of Toad. Shame too since it's by far the best Toad sounds.

It's not very hidden, and many gamers know about this "meme", but it's not exactly common knowledge either. It's called "Dopefish Lives" and I'm fairly sure is in some other FPS games, but I don't feel like looking it up. Dopefish is an enemy that appears in the final level of the game Commander Keen 4: Goodbye Galaxy.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided has a pretty nuts Easter egg. It's pretty infamous that the game just sorta ends with a lot of loose plot threads.

*Major spoilers*
In the vault you can find a frozen body of Adam Jensen. Which implies that you're playing as a clone and not the original. Likely foreshadowing a future plot twist in the third game.

In a similar vein Arkham City is mapped out in a secret room in Arkham Asylum which wasn't found for years.

AC had a random barge that you could use the radio gadget on. It'd open a door on it that had shipments for Scarecrow and a cypher that translates into ominous messages from him.

Lara Croft was originally going to be a South American woman named Laura Cruz.

She was also going to be male until one day her creator Toby Guard noticed that during their lunch break the developers were playing Virtua Fighter with the female characters so he asked them why they were using the female characters and they told them "because we are male and we like to look at the hot female characters"! In the Japanese original script of Final Fantasy VI, Locke's quest for the Phoenix is foreshadowed as soon as you meet him. A translation of his introductory text is as follows...

A wandering traveler.
A treasure hunter who roams the world
seeking an arcane treasure from ages past.

Furthermore, "Magitek" is an invention for the US translation. There was no such term in the original game. It was just referred to with various more generic words amounting to "sorcery".

Point blank shotgun blasts in dmc 3 on dted enemies in the air can bypass their knockback counter allowing for some neat hammer and aerial cross loops (or any other air attack that contributes to a lot of knockback counter). I think shotgun hammer loops are most efficient way to handle some dted enemies without doing dt explosions. Just really tough or tiring to pull off consistently.
