I enjoy soccer but yes the flopping is embarrassing, especially since hockey is my preferred sport

I was looking on a NYTimes comment board for this same topic and some European was truly trying to make a case that the players needed a break from all of the running and that the time spent rolling on the ground helped with that. Embarrassing sport indeed until they clean that up.

Yeah, I love soccer. Grew up playing and reffing it, but those pros that are always flopping are a disgrace (although FIFA and other organizations are mainly to blame for not really enforcing anti-flopping rules).

Nah, it's super easy to manipulate people with good editing no matter what the product is. See: every bad movie and game ever that had good trailers. When you're aware of it, it stops working.

Though I dont care about FIFA, i did check the finalists, Englands worst nightmare, the French vs Argentina.
Everyone knows the British and French hate each other. And Argentina tried to steal islands from them 50 years ago.

No soul, I guess. That points out that soccer is popular, but doesnt explain *why*. Then again I think people like soccer mostly to be a part of a big fan base (regardless of the game) so maybe it does explain. :)

For me, it's not just soccer, but other sports as well. I'm not a sports person. However, everyone is different so I just accept that some people like it and some people don't.

It's a very accessible sport. Open to everybody. You don't need to buy any equipment or anything. Hell, you don't even need a ball.

Soccer is a suspenseful sport.

Need less sports that just run up and down fields. Any illegal maneuver-unnecessary roughness should toss the player out of the game. Any show-boating or dancing crap should have players tossed as well. Just play the game.

Pretty much. More so than just about any other sport, anyone can play soccer, which in turn means anyone can develop an interest in soccer. That's inevitably going to result in a larger global audience than anything less accessible.

I love watching the angles and maneuvers during soccer games. Oh man, sooooo good. Dislike the lulls of trying to break through the defensive line while remaining onside. Hockey does sifting the puck back and forth in front of the opposing net a bit better.

I cannot wait for completely automated reffing for soccer. Flopping would be over as the game would not stop when dudes try to draw a foul and they would be putting their team at a disadvantage by remaining on the ground.

Football doesn't interest me yet my brother loves it. He doesn't support any of out city teams too. That is also a enigma to me but more power to him.
