I can't even tell you how often this happens to me - I'll be walking down the sidewalk, and a little ways down there will be someone walking toward me. I'll move to one side of the sidewalk where they aren't - and after a moment they'll move to that same side so they're directly in front of me, and refuse to move again.

I've seen all types of people do it, and it's never made any sense to me. They definitely see me because it's not like they're looking at their phones. Best I can guess is that it's some kind of dumbass power play, trying to assert dominance to some rando on the street to feel better about themselves.

idk people are weird as hell with that. I try to maintain 'right side of the sidewalk' because it equates to 'right side of the road'. I'll veer from this when I see old ladies who I think are probably scared of walking on the 'road' side of the sidewalk.

but yeah, if people do the 'back and forth' thing, I usually at least try to lighten the moment by saying 'shall we dance?'

I can't remember the last time I walked down a sidewalk.

Not as awkward as me, one time I walked past a woman in the middle of the night and said hi, she looked terrified like she was about to run.

But TC have you considered the unspoken rule that people will go to the side that cars drive on in their country? Like in America people walk to the right when passing someone.
