Also you're safe to sell weapons/armor, just don't sell the Rusty weapons (I don't even think you can).

Yeah, not sure why the battle speed up thing isn't in the controller instructions.

Also yeah I was confused at the plot based level progression. I really want to beat this side boss but I can't level up so it's basically impossible. Weird concept.

Just finished it. Have to say I didn't care much for the ending, but in all other respects this really is a great RPG. Not gonna threaten my top 10 or anything but an excellent experience. Good characters, great story, outstanding gameplay and music. Glad it's getting as much attention as it is.

I knew approaching that bridge would be a ponr but didn't realize it would be that long ugh

About 20 hours in and messing around in Act 2 currently.

Pretty fun game! I will say that I really just don't find fighting in Sky Armors that fun. The gear system with it just feels... not fun? I much prefer fighting as just the characters and not the armors.

Also yeah, Gem system sucks ass lol.

Everything else pretty good tho!

I agree the Sky Armor fights are kinda blah. I wish I could say they get better, but they don't - some of their late-game boss fights are extremely unfun.

sky armor fights are totally fine. I didn't struggle with them at all, but then, I scoured the game world and found all the upgrades. I don't think I died once in the game outside of optional superbosses, trying to unlock reward board challenges, or walking into sky armor battles on foot.

I beat this yesterday and it's extremely good. it's just so impressive that this was made by one guy. I expected something short and this game is anything but.

I'm not struggling with them, I just find them un-fun with how gear switching works. It's just not a pleasant experience and I actively try to avoid all Sky Armor fights because of it.

Played for two hours and this indie game has surprised me so far... with how good it is.

The world is interesting, the characters are interesting, the battle system is interesting and the story is interesting. The only thing I consider a flaw so far is that the dialogue has sub par vocabulary and I'm being quite generous here. Other than that, excellent art direction and soundtrack as well. I'm really impressed.

Also the opening needs to be mentioned here. Excellent Chrono Trigger troll job

I believe the author speaks English as a second language, which is why some of it seems off sometimes.

(10 hours-ish location name spoilers) In the mountains - This is right after I finished the mountains for the first time and entered the Fior Woods, I teleported back to the mountains to see if I could get more stuff

And it leads to an area that's giving me these new giant grey chests with items called "RAM" which don't even show up in my inventory - is this for sky armor stuff that I don't even have available yet???

This really seems like I shouldn't have access to these chests yet.

Certainly looks like you bugged into Sky Armor somehow. And yeah that stuff is for sky armors

there are "invisible bridges" in that area. a random NPC later in the game mentions that this area has invisible bridges. so I guess it's a planned secret that you found before being told it existed.

So this game

- Starts off as Chrono Trigger
- Then becomes Xenogears and doesn't even try to hide it with the very first mission name
- Becomes Xenoblade Chronicles with the huge open fields
- And now Final Fantasy VI. Literal Narshe party split happened for me right now.

The developer must be a huge huge JRPG fan.

Also Shin Megami Tensei vibes with the Carrot boss battle that killed me so many times. The battle system is very methodical and I like it.

The dialogue could really use some editing though, it feels like I'm playing a fan translation JRPG from the SNES-PS1 era at times.

well i just hope the game is going to remember that i should have those two items in my inventory, when i eventually get access to it!

i did meet the guy who tells you about the secret passage now. i still think it's kinda dumb though that you can do it early, i doubt i'm the only one who wondered if it was bugged. (especially because the items don't show up in your inventory so it really seems like you're not intended to be there)

finished act 1 and i'm really impressed, the sky armor segment was awesome, the armors are maybe the best pixel art in the game and the battle animatons are so satisfying, and then to discover its a mechanic you can literally use at any time on any map, wow. idk how xenogears did it but i'm used to mechs being a lot more limited than that, like "you get them for specific segments only".

that and the airship and having a home base, plus the expansion of the story with the flashback dream and stuff is pretty cool. i still need a damn glossary though i can't keep track of the million names of different kingdoms and continents and which are good and which are bad. aside from that and the awkward dialogue though its all really nice. and the issue everyone else mentioned with the crystals, it's just sort of a hassle, i auto-combine and just slot stuff in wherever and don't care if i'm ruining its purity or w/e.

as someone who tried to explore 100% and fill in everything on the board before moving on, i was desperately waiting for the time when the game would stop railroading me and would let me backtrack and stuff so i'm excited to finally do that. it's funny because i went into this expecting oldschool linear JRPG but i'm pretty into the xenoblade style.

Getting the sky armors and being able to use them everywhere is one of the best moments in the game.

the sky armors are a lot more xenoblade x than xenogears, right down to unlocking them many hours into the game. I like them but it does turn into a pixel hunt to figure out where you can land in some spots. it's basically an airship that travels with you somehow.

And now this game is Dragon Quest VIII lol

End of Act 1 and already 13 hours played. I heard this game is 4 Acts so I might be roughly looking at roughly 50 hours of content at my pace.

Completely sold on this game. Possibly the best 13 hours I have played in any indie game. It is incredible and remarkable that a single person made this game on so many levels. Truly an astounding feat but regardless of that I wasn't gonna pull any punches with my criticisms if any were to present itself because I judge my games irrespective of budget and size of the developmental team. And on that note, the game has been practically flawless apart from the at times poor vocabulary in the dialogue that I already mentioned. The stat lock Chrono Cross like progression system actually kept the game's difficulty quite balanced so far so I wouldn't consider them a flaw. The good things, the game does really well. The story and characters are very intriguing and well written. The turn based battle system is very fun and actually requires use of strategy but never becomes overbearing (not so far at least). Exploration is fun, environments are varied and atmospheric, and music is just simply outstanding.

Really excited to see what lies ahead.

This game is absolutely the real deal. I am hooked to the story, the characters, the combat, the exploration, the music, the world. Basically almost everything. Can scarcely believe this is an indie game much less made by a single person.

I think the funny comparison is this to the dragon quest game on switch that I bounced off hard

It'll be curious to see how this compares to Sea of Stars and Eiyuden when they come out. I can't imagine either of them being better than this to be honest.

I'll be fairly surprised if Sea of Stars isn't better than Chained Echoes but I'm very optimistic on the former and I seem to be coming in a little below the majority on the latter.

End of Act 3. Fucking incredible game holy shit. Truly speechless at the quality of the story telling.

Third Eye stacking with Elemental Pact along with all the elemental and defense debuffs is making Lenne into a killing machine. She is practically 1 or 2 shotting Bosses when fully buffed this late into the game.

Game beat. Best indie game I've played quite easily. High recommendation to any JRPG fan.

I'm going on a trip and I may actually start playing this if it's Steam Deck compatible.

Also I have not finished Marvel Midnight Suns but that is absolutely not Steam Deck compatible.

Usually games will turn the 1st option into Continue when there's an existing save

ah. yeah, such a small feature i'd never consciously noticed it, that makes sense.

100% done. 38 hours played total. I think the timer in this the game is slower than the an actual clock because I feel like I played a lot lot more than just 38 hours.

Lenne with Elemental Pact, Third Eye along with elemental and offensive buffs absolutely melted the Super Boss. The Assassin Girl ended up being a harder fight than the God King.

I kinda wish there were fewer characters. It's getting hard to decide who I am leaving out. Tank Bird seems good but I don't know who I am cutting

Bird tank is generally agreed to be the worst character so you're probably safe to not use him. Other characters just do his job better usually.

I found Egyl very very useful drawing aggro with his insane defense and Cover is a godsend of an ability against hard hitting bosses. I can get Lenne to easily stack all her buffs (which makes her defense very vulnerable) with Egyl covering her, drawing all the aggro and absorbing all attacks. Not to mention he has the full heal spell (which he can only use on himself mind you) so he almost becomes an unkillable wall of defense.

My party of Glenn, Lenne, Egyl and Victor were unstoppable and complimented each other's abilities very well.

Glenn to debuff enemies and heal Lenne's TP when she uses Elemental Pact. Egyl to draw aggro and cover Lenne and also apply Dry status to further stack elemental weakness on enemies. Victor to apply buffs and heal when necessary. Lenne to completely annihilate enemies with Water Thrust for single targets and Water Jump for multiple targets.

This really does completely break the game's difficulty though but my point is, Egyl rocks and the people saying he sucks completely misunderstand his usefulness in battles.
