We'd stay at a decent hotel, try to reserve a table at a club. Etc.

How safe is the city?

Mexico city is great, you'll have fun and the tourist area is pretty safe. Dont forget to bring your street smarts just in case.

As dumb and reckless as our group is, I think we'd actually be pretty tame on the streets. Pretty chill people. If even 1 guy in our group tries to fight, at least 2 will grab that dude and just remove him entirely from the place.

Cartels won't mess with tourists.
They make money off them.

Cartels do sometimes kill tourists. But it might be mistakes. That later get a death punishment from the bosses.

There was a famous case over 10 years ago I think where a guy and a woman were jetskiing I think on a lake where half the lake is American half is Mexican. And there is an island on the Mexican side with an old church. They went to take pictures of the church and cartel guys chased them on their own jetskis and shot them

But I think later some cartel bodies were found and supposedly it was the killers, executed by their bosses for fucking up

I remember there was an affluent town in Mexico that US citizens and Canadians retired to. It was super safe until a rash of ransom kidnappings caused terror amongst the retirees. The kidnappers were found dead and horribly mutilated after the third kidnapping. The Mexican locals said the cartel backed police had them killed.

I went to my buddies bachelor party in Mexico in 2017 for a week but we went to a resort in cancun. Left the resort and traveled to the popular tourist area.

I mean we understood the danger and all and were safe. I'd definitely go again I think the country and people are great from my experience.

Dudes are invading the beaches of resorts full of tourists firing at everyone. I only brought up the first three of several articles. Basically, it has nothing to do with "doing stupid shit" but being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Lots of tourists have been killed caught in cartel wars. They literally do not give a fuck.

That being said, I've never had a problem in Mexico, but I left Tiajuana the day before a cartel shootout in the tourist section of La Revo and lots of people died right were I was...

People are speaking about cartel and that is a real thing. But I am thinking more on the lines of a 12 drunk guys in a place that they don't know and not able to speech Spanish. A few people will have to stay dry and unless they are non drinkers that is a messed up for them. Just go some place safer in America.

Besides that show Jax brought up. What can you do there that you can't in America. And heck I am guessing you are not looking for a show like that. So what is the upside.

Been to Mexico City in 2019 with my father for a week and yeah, it can be pretty safe as long as you dont over expose yourself.

If the purpose of your trip is mainly for a Bachelor's party i would suggest you stay at Zona Rosa. Its a 6x6 blocks area with a pretty active nightlife, and despite all the partying is pretty safe and police presence is very common in the area. I stayed in that area and it was fine.

If you really want to be as safe as possible then Polanco is the best area to stay in.

Just be careful with your money when you pay. Not all but quite a few people in Mexico will try to scam you when you pay. Say you pay something with a 200 or 500 pesos bill, if you get distracted they will swiftly change it to a 20 or 50 peso bill and say its not enough. To avoid this give them the bills one by one or count the ammount as you are paying

Right now Mexico is one of the unsafest places for foreigners, even if you are in a tourist place...
Abductions and cartel raids or shootouts are common.

You'll see the cartel driving around in the streets in broad daylight no matter where you go and the local police won't cannot stop them because they're are outgunned by the fact that the cartel carries military grade weaponry so much so that the MEXICAN ARMY has to get involved in the everyday militarized combat with the cartel.

Op just like numerous other people said. You can do that easily in the states. Mexico can be fun and all, but for the past few decades, the cartel has been running rampant and they actively engage anyone and everyone for no reason. They attack bars, farms, police bases..

It's so bad right now, that if you even stay off the main roads and go sight seeing in various mountains or beaches there's a good chance you'll run into a cartel member of some kind.

ITT every state in Mexico is the same. Mexico City does not have those cartel problems as much as smaller states and it is actually a city, not a rural area filled with cartel battles.

Thats like comparing big cities like New york, LA to Florida, Texas or layover states. Not everything is the same.
