I hear that Robin Williams did so much improvised dialog there there are PG, PG-13, R, and NC-17 cuts of the film.

I'd pay good money to see that NC-17 version.

Maybe not by the general public, but a few cats from twitter would, then other media would run along with the story saying how its a stupid reason for cancel culture while other side would be pro cancelling, and all for the sake of clicks since both news outlets probably dont even care or believe in it. The clicks=money has ruined this world.

This is why we barely or simply dont have comedies anymore.

The comedy genre is dead. There are no longer Comedy superstars like Williams, Jim Carey were back in the 90's. The last ones were probably Seth Rogen and Steve Carell.

Going further, there is a general death of mid budget theatrical movies, as people watch them at home now and there feally aren't any movie stars like there used to be, regardless of genre. It sucks.

Sorry when it comes down to it Mrs Doubtfire is drag not trans. If anything Ace Ventura had the Trans issues. I watched it a few months back and it's cringe asf. That one couldn't be made today. Mrs Doubtfire certainly could. Also Robin Williams was a huge ally to the LGBT+ community.

this has nothing to do at all with whatever alleged "cancel culture" existing today, it has to do with the theater experience in general falling out of favor in recent years because of streaming services taking over (and obviously because of COVID), and the streaming business model relying more heavily on quantity over quality, so now instead of paying a large amount to an established actor for one big blockbuster movie, they now pay a pittance to dozens of unknowns for dozens of shoestring budget productions

This is true. And this is also why you are both correct. Maybe it should be rephrased to say that there are no well known mainstream comedies because, yeah there's a bunch of tiny shitty ones on streaming services that no one has ever heard of. But it doesn't enter the cultural lexicon anymore.

There are innumerable articles about the death of comedies, as well as mid budget movies in general. Google it. Yes, I mean in the theaters but most people have never even heard of most of the streaming ones.

All you have to do is look at the top 50 highest grossing movies each year in the 80s, 90s, and 00s vs the 10s and today. The difference is alarming.

And no, I am not counting Guardians of the Galaxy and Free Guy and such.

He didn't do anything correct. He could have objected to that scene. They could have changed the scene. It wasn't ok then isn't ok now either way Robin didn't make his joke at the expense of anyone. Ace Ventura did

Yeah, that mostly backs up what I said. A lot of animated and streaming only.

I would argue that Ticket to Paradise is the only theatrical, successful, classic-style comedy on that list. Maybe Dog as well.

Look, I don't want this to be a true trend. But it is. Anyone who actually studies what is going on with Hollywood and the box office knows it.

I need to rewatch ace ventura. Well not need, I don't know if I can stand the movie now I just need to quickly absorb the movie as an adult because as a kid I understood none of it, neither the plot nor the mystery nor why the hell jim carrey was disgusted and crying or anything that happened. Hell I didn't even watch the movie it was originally parodying, The Crying Game, until a few years back so now that I have I kind want to watch Ace Ventura again knowing what I now know.

A lot of the horrifically criminal shit in comedy movies gets overlooked and in that respect what Williams did wasn't even that bad compared to shit like the ending of Tommy Boy.

Comedy is dead more so in the aspect that corporations have taken over every aspect of the industry and have ruined it for the consumers in a means to maximize profits and less so because 'you can't make jokes anymore' or 'you have to be woke now'. If anything challenging writers to create content that isn't just stupid stereotype joke or sex joke would be an evolution of comedy.
