People liked MoP but disliked pandas specifically. The best raids were all in MoP.

Some people will say the game peaked at Wrath, I think it peaked at TBC but Wrath was still the last good expansion.

Cataclysm was fantastic, despite what people bitch about.
If you weren't a raider, MoP was really underwhelming but still fine.
WoD was awful, Legion was better but still not good, BFA had so many issues, and Shadowlands.....existed?

I really liked WoD's leveling, dungeon, raiding, and class design.

It's short length and content droughts is what killed it. It could have easily been the best expansion.

I feel like Cata and MoP would both be appreciated more if they were released today.

People complained that Cata heroics were too hard on release. Now... >_>
There was a "lack of content" compared to today, but not really compared to previous expacs. I really liked the "log on, raid, log off" schedule, but you could also farm mounts, old gear, pets, etc. The light amount of "forced" activity really left room for players to play the game. I felt far more productive in Cata than any other expac. The Firelands sidezone was pretty packed full of achievements that should have lasted at least as long as the tier. Dragon Soul was a bit disappointing as a raid and as content, but you got transmog! Not the best expac, but Firelands was awesome.

MoP was SOOOO good. People shit on the theme, but the story was partially a successful version of what Shadowlands was attempting - a mostly self-contained adventurer with ties to the bigger picture. Class design peaked in MoP, almost every class felt broken and fun. There was SOOOOO much to do and far less of it was "forced" than whiners imagine. Pet battles, the farm, cloud serpents, stuff to explore in every zone, dungeon challenges, Brawler's Guild, etc, etc. Even before Timeless Isle, if you just spent time doing stuff on Pandaria you were probably being rewarded for it AND there was thousands of hours of stuff to farm outside of Pandaria. IMO, this was the max amount of content that should ever be in one expac.

WoW peaked at Lich King so I would say anything after is downhill. Although I will give Legion props for giving us a proper send off for the series. BFA and Shadowlands is when the series just became awful. I couldn't even motivate myself to gear up to do the first raid.

The end of Lich King is what hurt WoW the most. Everything became easier with huge catch up mechanics.

Then they tried to go back with Cata and the difficulty was too much.

It was all downhill from there and reactionary.

Wrath > Cata/MoP > BC > Vanilla > Else

Facts.

Most 'difficulty' re: heroic (now mythic) could've been solved by introducing a third tier, like Heroic, where additional mechanics are introduced. Heroic is just minor stat buffs for mobs with no change to mechanics iirc.

The current game is more difficult than ever, especially for casuals, and people love it - or that aspect, at least.

what? Wraths raids were great and thats when the population was the highest

cata heroics were too hard for people and a bunch hated the old world changes and went to private servers, thats when the pop started to go down. A lot of people hated on MoP when it came out and then people said they liked the raids later on. I hated pretty much all the new enemy types, Sha were boring and Hozen are still dumb af.

and then WoD had all the launch problems and complaints about doing nothing but sitting in garrisons. Fun dungeons though

Cataclysm is when it went down hill by and large, MoP was a brief respite, and then Blizzard basically chucked WoW off a cliff with WoD like Heihachi. It managed to climb back up with Legion briefly, but they were waiting there to kick it back down with mishandling everything.

I never liked it. Having one good sunset patch doesn't make up for all the shit that came with it. AP, world quests, continuance of no flying, shitty legendary system, annoying mobs - it really set up for everything bad in BFA and Shadowlands.
Class halls were cool, but load times sucked. Artifacts were cool but entirely FOMO. It had fun experiences, but I think it made the game worse.
