Alternate paths you can only reach with acrobatics would be fun.

Or just in general. None of this "legendary level sneak and one handed on an immortal npc to keep getting level ups to boost your stamina" bullshit. -_-

I'd like to see them, but maybe tweaked. Nothing like leveling up to reach harder enemies, because you did jumping jacks in town for 8 hours. Now you're ready to fight the final boss.

Like they should exist, but the leveling implementation is fickle.

Attributes don't improve the game. You can have acrobatics and athletics as skills without governing attributes, which historically just complicated leveling.

Leveling efficiently in TES games with attributes ends up counter intuitive and rewards metagaming. Oblivion actively punished a player not using a goddamn regimen for leveling

Sure. However, I'd prefer a set stat growth to what Oblivion tried to do.

In fact, there should be two things that influence your character's innate stats upon leveling up: Their Race and Class. Have special 1-time use books/trainers/food/drink items to find throughout the world to give you permanent stat raises as well. Maybe have you select one stat of your own choice at level up so not every character feels the same? (Or every 2nd or 5th level up instead if that seems too op?)

I'd still think it should have a Skyrim Skill/Perk leveling system for skills as well. (With more skills than Skyrim, both returning and new ones hopefully.) You can still have Major skills be determined by your Class, with a slight experience boost to them compared to your Minor ones. Race still determines the skill's starting point. I feel stats should have some sort of influence on them as well but I can't really think of anything meaningful at the moment.

Skyrim's dumbing down of RPG mechanics sucked-- and that it followed into FO4 also sucked.

This was my first thought, haha. My Khajiit better be able to jump to a third-story balcony in a single pounce.

As long as they ditch the arbitrary requirements to get +5 per level over +1 then it should be fine. Having to juggle things like how many arrows you fire in a week to get high stats was stupid.

Morrowind / Oblivion's approach to attributes and leveling is good in theory, but a counter-intuitive micromanaging hell in practice. I'd be lying if I said I missed them in Skyrim.

Redundancy is a big issue here - why bring Attributes back if they can be just as effectively represented by Skills / the main 3 stats (health / magicka / stamina)? Endurance, Intelligence, and Strength's functions are largely rendered moot by simply replacing them with direct magicka / stamina / health increases. Personality is damn-near useless to begin with, and better represented by the Speech / Barter skill anyway (granted a high Personality can render enemies non-hostile in Oblivion at least, but said Attribute has to be absurdly high to affect humanoids, undead, and daedra; this is something that can only be achieved with limited, borderline-exploitative spellcrafting, which is so esoteric that most people probably didn't even know it was possible). And lolololol the Luck stat.

Which leaves Willpower, Agility, and Speed. Willpower's a bit of an odd duck - it bizarrely governs about three more things than it ought to in Morrowind, yet only dictates magic regen in Oblivion. Agility and Speed's absence could largely be remedied by the return of a dedicated Athletics and Acrobatics skill trees.

Yeah Oblivion's leveling system was straight garbage and I don't see why anyone would want that back
