I honestly feel so stupid and low.
You shouldn't, you did nothing wrong.

This keeps happening to me. So something must be wrong with me.
No,NOTHING is wrong with you!
You're doing everything RIGHT!

Either way Im done trying. Im just going to do my job and thats it. Eventually Ill be my own boss. Regardless of the lack of promotions I know for a fact that Im good at my job.
You should, eventually once the kiddo gets older, start your own business.

When you're the boss, everybody answers to YOU!

You'd make a FANTASTIC Boss.

I'm sure of it!

You're NOT failing at anything.

You're performing your best, showing up and showing how damn awesome you are.

The fact that those other folks have to "Politic" against you just to hold you down shows how afraid of your awesome performance.
They can't ding you on capability & delivering on what you promise; so they collude in the background to screw you over.

That just means that they're "INSECURE" about their own capabilities.

Thanks for the encouragement. At the end of the day Im really excited about the new job. Its a really cool company a lot would love to work at. I was really upset yesterday and my husband asked how many of your team members would love to be going where you are? And it helped put things into perspective from me. Theyd have no chance at getting into the kind of company Im going to.

Also I truly believe what comes around goes around. I know a lot of high level people at tech companies and if I ever get wind that theyre considering her Ill be sure to tell them exactly what kind of person she is.

Thank you for the kind words. You guys are all awesome.

I know recruiting isnt the most well respected job out there. But people remember the good ones more than they do the bad ones. I work within a specific industry in tech so its a small world and Ive built a name and reputation for myself that allow me at this stage of my career to remove myself from these situations. Ive always been great to my candidates and when they move up and become managers, directors, even C suite, they remember me and I know I have a solid network thanks to that. Along with all the hiring managers Ive worked with. I feel so lucky to be able to find something else, in this market and economic landscape especially.

I wish you success as well in finding something new next year in the US. Im happy to be of any help when youre ready.

Having to suppress a crying attack at work isn't normal, is it? Asking for a friend >_>

I feel like I was shamed/bullied into staying overtime by someone who has had to put in overtime hours for almost a year in order to keep the business running and resents how I have less to do than her, even though I'm a different position (though we do share an office). This person is also quite toxic and has trouble keeping her emotions in check: last week I saw her throw a tantrum by jumping on a piece of paper and cursing because we produced 41 pallets of something instead of 42. She's constantly complaining about every little thing, which brings the mood down. Today I was the person being complained about and it didn't feel good.

Another example, earlier this week I was on the phone with my mentor from an other location where I spent time training, discussing a few work issues. Direct quote from her: "he's on the phone and I get stuck with the shitty jobs"

On the plus side, this was the impetus I needed to polish up my CV and send out an application, so here's hoping something works out

Geez she sounds like a real piece of work. Im sorry youre dealing with that. Is she your supervisor or a colleague? If she isnt in any way your manager, try your best to keep your head down and ignore her. Ask your manager for feedback to help you grow and help in navigating the situation. Document everything. If it continues to escalate, go to HR. Chances are she is just a miserable person and shes probably disliked.

I do hope you can find something else.

Workplace bullying is absolutely a thing and it's fucking awful.

It's been ten years and I still remember the job I had where my manager bullied me and my coworker, gave our other coworker preferential treatment.

Colleague. I think the higher ups want to make me her manager someday/somehow but I have no idea how that'd work, especially since I have no managerial training whatsoever.

My manager is a position that isn't filled, so I report to my grandboss. He's a nice guy but nearing retirement and it shows, in both good and less-good ways

Everyone knows about her behaviour. She's tolerated because she keeps the business running and does the work of a whole department by herself. If it came down to me vs her, I'm sure that the business would choose her in a heartbeat.

Thank you, I hope so too. I'd even be happy just not having to deal with her lol

Meanwhile, I re-interviewed for a job I declined this past January on November 14 and still haven't heard anything, even though the hiring manager told me "this is really just a formality since we offered you this position before."

Everyone is replaceable. I wouldnt be surprised if they wanted you to be her manager so you can learn what shes doing potentially. And then you could replace her. Either way try not to let her get to you because at least shes not directly in charge of you. Shes disliked for a reason.

Did you try following up? A lot of companies are slowing down hiring as well. I interviewed with one that turned me down last summer because they paused on the role. Reached back out, had me interview again, then put it on pause again. It was infuriating.

Yep. Followed up several times. They switched recruiters internally and the new one doesn't even know I interviewed already.

I looped in the old recruiter who looped in the hiring manager, but I've heard nothing other than "working on things internally."

Given how late it is in the year, I doubt an offer will be made again before January. Which is fine because I'm on PTO from next Friday until Jan. 4. (Currently a teacher and trying to leave.)

New job is for a Junior Technical Writer position in the northern VA area.
