If I remember right, he actually pretended to be his own son. I think he found a way to make himself younger or he cloned a new body or something like that. But he went around telling people he was his own son and that he had died i think. Its been a while since I read that era

His xenophobia can be pretty inconsistent but he usually is depicted as an ulta-humanist who detests aliens interfering with earth. Same mindset could be considered adjacent to nationalism or racial supremacist dogma.

Then again he's also a megalomaniac whose idea of helping humanity is usually "fuck everyone except me, Lex Luthor", so who knows

Yeah it's mainly just a joke about his DCAU design which is based on an old Greek actor.
