AHHHHHHHH

I think there's some sort of societal cognitive dissonance when it comes to big companies and money.

You hear all the time that so and so company is losing something like half a billion dollars and people freak out without realizing that the company will make it back in under a month.

A single absence could cost them $2 billion? It seems to me like it might be in the company's best interest to hire more people. :/

The whole situation is disgusting. Give these poor workers sick time and stop short staffing them you cheap assholes. If this supply line is so vital, stop overworking everyone so they're more likely to make mistakes or just quit. This whole situation just proves this vital national resource shouldn't be in the greedy hands of the private sector.

btw cost of giving these workers way wayyyy more than the asked for, which is 15 days of paid sick leave is just shy of 700 million

and the railroad made 25 BILLION with B already

costs when compared to BILLIONS are like they don't exist

it is like you giving a $5 bill to a homeless guy

Heres an idea:

Do what you should have done from the start and make the job more appealing, then hire more people for a higher wage (the big wigs can take a pay cut this time) and then you have more people to fill in when someone is sick.

This short staffing trend of minimal workforce and astronomic paychecks to the top needs to stop and we need legislation that prevents this from happening again. When the entire workforce is being abused and underpaid and the bosses are raking up massive amounts of money, you have a serious issue.

If you want the job to be appealing to younger workers (which you should), then bring the workforce into the 21st century. Pay us enough to cover the cost of inflation. Prices arent going down and paychecks MUST increase drastically and the workforce itself needs to expand rapidly to accommodate what many of us view as overpopulation. If we are sick, give us paid leave. In addition to that, we need to move away from marijuana drug tests as a society. If we dont have accurate ways to determine if youre currently high, then we need to stop punishing people for smoking before they go to bed. If you want people to work these jobs, make them not seem like a prison sentence.

When you allow the workforce to shortstaff, every member is crucially important and they will harass you on every waking moment of your time off or make you feel like youre screwing everyone over by taking time off. Workers are not company property and they need to stop treating us like we are.

I have worked, and still do work, a job that pays several times less than the people at the front lines of a rail company do.

I wish I could find the time to care.

Even worse, if they think they're fucked, what hope do the millions working retail and hospitality have?

It really feels like since the pandemic we've been truly testing just how far the rich will fuck the working class over until they break and unfortunately it seems like they're truly intent on not only breaking the working class but making so they truly have no other option but to take it or end up dead or in prison where they'll be slaves in all but name.

Good points, but I still think that any job should have days off if youre sick. That should be a human right of sorts.

CNN is going off the rails with the new CEO. I've read CNN for almost 20 years and it's changed in the last month or so. its not everything, but there is a definite thread of "false flag" bullshit running through it now. shit designed by conservatives to appeal to liberals, or at least that's what they think, as well as being pretty open about not hurting the CCPs feelings.
