People who never hunted shinies before tend to think just a few hundred encounters is a lot and that they should find the shiny within a few days and neither of those are close to true. Plus you're hunting full odds at 1/8192 so you're likely looking at several thousand encounters at least and if you're unlucky it could easily go over 10,000.
