You can (carefully, so as to avoid splashing contaminated water everywhere), but it won't be enough to salvage the chicken if it's actually past it. Give it a sniff after rinsing it off and toss it if it still smells off.

I generally just freeze everything I buy that I'm not going to be cooking within about 36 hours of buying it. It means I have to put a little more forethought into dinner prep and move the meat to the fridge the night before, but it's very rare that I end up wasting any.

I usually always wash my chicken. Never had a problem but I also don't splash water everywhere and keep the sink clean.

Yeah, washing meat was a hold over from cultures where they had outdoor markets. So its very much one of those things what "I do it because my mom always did" And the chain was never broken.

Nowadays unless your meat fell on the floor or something there is literally no reason to wash any meat.

and yeah, with hypnox. never washed meat. sometimes dabbed off with paper towel if it's excessively moist, but coating it with water would just be the opposite of that.

I dap all meat, but I go a step further. I heavily salt most meats for an hour to draw the moisture out near the surface and then pat the meat with paper towels to dry it off. Best way to get a nice crust or browning on meats.

Chicken 100% of the time. It draws the moisture out of the skin so it makes it extra crispy.
