It's actually pretty good, you just have to look past the terrible, terrible combat.

Jokes aside, the first game isn't a huge leap away from being open world anyway.

This is true but it's CDPR so it could also be a disaster

The first game is a chore with a lot of potential and occasional enjoyable moments, anything they can do to make it more fun I'm all about.

I dont hate open worlds as a concept anymore. It usually has more potential. The problem is that they are easy to fuck up. Very easy actually.

The first game did try to be open world, but the engine didn't really support it. Problem was, there wasn't a lot of content in the empty spaces between the quests.

It will probably be open-world in the same way that TW3 was "open-world". Which is a good thing.

they should really just make a new Witcher game though imo. The first one didnt even have a very good plot

Granted, none of them were the main plot.

I hope they tweak some story details to make it mesh better with the later games. And that they make Triss into less of a sexual predator.

I am really curious how they deal with the plot considering that it's apparently just an extremely broad retelling of the main plot of the books.

Good, I didn't have much interest in a faithful adaptation of the first, it wasn't that great. If it's gonna be more like 3 i'm in.

I don't have an issue with that. The world was pretty segmented, but always revolved around Vizima. It won't impact the gameplay much.

Witcher 3 was open world done correctly so why are we upset the original is getting remade to match that game's template?

Geralt has a reputation across the land for having amazing stamina and being sterile, so women everywhere you go throw themselves at him, and you can choose to have him make many conquests throughout the game. for every time you do, you unlock a card with a naughty picture of the woman on it.

Don't have an issue with that. Like most of the game is set within the same city and swamp. Then the other two acts are set in a nearby area anyway.

That isn't true. It's set after the books and starts off with Geralt having amnesia. Which opens up characters explaining his own backstory which are the books. Maybe that's what you're thinking of.

The game is about him finding and adopting a magical child while dealing with an impending war between human and nonhuman forces.

I've not read a lot of the series, but that does seem to be what they're mostly about.

I know. Alvin is a game character and his role isn't like Ciri's.

Geralt also doesn't adopt him and just gives him advice. As a kid he isn't even seen as someone who is super important. The twist isn't something that's evident until the end of the game.

You could say that Witcher 1 takes some inspiration from the books for its original characters yes but it's not a retelling at all. The game events and the book events are completely seperate.

The intro cutscene is even specifically an adaptation of a book event that is revisited within the game. Mostly they have given Geralt amnesia so they can start players fresh within that world while also not contradicting the established books or being an entire adaptation of them. So new players and book readers can both appreciate the game.

Plot wise it fits into everything fine. Most of it is about Geralt dealing with his amnesia (which ends up directly tying to the overarching trilogy plot) and tracking down the guys who attacked the witcher fort.

Isn't this new Witcher Trilogy supposed to have only two years between games too? If it releases within the trilogy then that's a plan of 4 Witcher games within 6 years. That's a lot of Witcher.

Don't think they'll make that plan anyway.

She is mentioned in the first game (not by name), but it is by a single NPC who is easy to miss (innkeeper fairly late game).

I'm okay with it being remade. Love the original, but even I admit that the gameplay is its biggest barrier.
