Specifically, it was firebombed. His neighbour's place got attacked a week ago, then his place got hit two days ago.

Who is FriendlyJordies? Frankly, he's a bit of a mixed bag. I think he does incredible freelance journalism on topics other people wouldn't dare to touch, and that can be hampered by a very bombastic sense of humour.

Take his case with the former deputy premier of New South Wales, John Barilaro - I thought the coverage was incredible, but he doubled down on this mocking Italian accent that led to him being classed as a bigot. Seriously, dude is a mixed bag.

But here are a few examples of what he's been covering over the past few years to explain why I'm even making this topic:

  • He's made dozens of videos about media bias in this country. Examples of this include highlighting conservative fundraising events happening at major news headquarters, double standards in how different parties are addressed, softballing conservatives even when they're on trial for aiding and engaging in corruption - from Murdoch to Nine/Fairfax to the ABC, the past ten years of conservative rule has left a legacy of media outlets "holding the left to account" while letting the right leave through the side-door with a sack full of money.
  • He's firmly on the side of firefighters, highlighting that even after the most devastating fires in recorded history - to the tune of being visible from space - the conservative government continued to slash funding for firefighters across the country. He's brought it to light that the government has been warned for eight whole years that the nation was a powder keg about to go up in flames, and it didn't stop them from gutting the fire service before and after those fires.
  • He's interviewed multiple politicians on both sides of the aisle about issues like water trading, deforestation and animal conservation both before and after the aforementioned bushfires burned most of this country's diverse ecosystem to the ground. This extends to visiting remote towns in rural Australia suffering most from those issues, with indigenous people and populations you could only describe as impoverished tending to be hit the hardest.
  • He highlighted how a politician was making a lot more money than he was letting on, to the point of having a large acreage outside of Newcastle that he owns solely to rent out as an airBnB. This - combined with the previously mentioned mocking accent - led to Jordies being taken to court by the second most powerful man in state politics over defamation, during which statements which would have outright prevented Jordies from being charged were refused on the ground of parliamentary privilege.
  • He interviewed a whistleblower who's dying of cancer, choosing to talk about ClubsNSW suppressing evidence of money laundering happening in clubs before he passed away. This led to Jordies being sent to court again without being notified for weeks, during which the court heard ClubsNSW testimony about him multiple times. This is his most recent issue - the evidence exists, records exist of ClubsNSW suppressing that evidence, and they're trying to gag both this YouTuber and a terminally ill man for revealing that they're not doing anything to prevent an uptick of money laundering at their venues.
That's not talking about property developers, corruption hearings involving the most powerful politician in state politics, links of politicians to organised crime families, having an anti-terrorist taskforce arrest his producer based on testimony that was falsified and later dropped completely - FriendlyJordies is an absolute gun, and he's made a lot of waves for topics like this that the actual news doesn't have the balls to pursue.

The political narrative is that one of Australia's most robust and diverse river ecosystems is drying up for no reason, and yet there's this whole business called "water trading" where the top half of the river buys credits, dams as much water as they want at the top of the river and leave nothing for the bottom half. Wouldn't have known that if FriendlyJordies didn't make a forty minute documentary, including interviews with local farmers affected by the practice and a company involved with the water trading business.

People protest the government after botching some of the worst flooding in Australia's recorded history? The news defaulted to a handful of blanket statements from the PM and state premier that showed no response from the public, Jordies showed that *everyone* in the affected area picketed the PM and premier for refusing to help them. He even helped people relocate pets and rebuild chicken coops and shit.

That's why FriendlyJordies is such an important channel. He'll make some fucking snafu because he goes "there's no such thing as left-wing or right-wing" and says some stupid shit that gets backlash, and it's fucking annoying and disappointing. Sometimes the claims will be inflated, sometimes he'll just outright say something shitty. It's a dice roll and I fucking hate it. But look at that list of journalistic coverage. He has actually taken some of Australia's most powerful politicians to account.

And that culminated in someone firebombing his house two nights ago. Fucking FIREBOMBING it. His house burned to the ground, and the intent was almost certainly to kill him. He was in Melbourne for a live show, if he wasn't on tour he might have fucking DIED.

Crime families. Corruption in state and national politics. Property developers. Deforestation. Money laundering. Police overreach. These are the issues he's been pursuing, and it nearly led to him burning alive in the middle of the night. How fucked up is that.
