I think this is the best way, IMO. You know him and I don't, but most people would be happy to have things prolonged a little in order to make their passing easier for their loved ones. I would suggest though that once the close circle of family are present, you have a serious chat with the ICU team about his situation though and whether they think there is a meaningful chance of a good functional recovery. I was able to see him for a few days the week before and let him know he was the greatest and made sure I got him everything he needed while I was there. He had some artwork and sketches to give me so I'm keeping those forever. Right now, I'm in New York to take care of his affairs. This shit really sucks. Thanksgiving was legit one of the best days I've had in a long-time. Most of my mom's side of the family came down for Thanksgiving so I got to see a lot of relatives I haven't seen in legit a decade. Lots of drinking, smoking, eating and partying with my cousins where I kinda got to destress and take my mind off of my dad's condition. And then today, my job promotion was made official and I'm being moved over to the Enterprise Application team at my company, with a hefty pay raise. I had to put my birth mother in the ground last year and while we weren't super close it was difficult seeing the changes she went through. She was never full of energy, but her whole demeanor over the course of 6 months just got worse and worse.
