I have only beaten one Mana game before this one, and it was Children of Mana back on the DS (and it wasn't very good). This game was much shorter and a lot more fun to play, and with the better translation it was pretty clear on what to do despite the limited dialogue. Since the game was initially a mobile phone game, it made heavy use of the touch screen (you could use the face buttons if you wished) and I had no problem using the touch controls to attack and use magic spells in battle. The platinum requires level 99 which is pretty ridiculous when I finished the game at level 54, but I'll attempt it at a later date.

Getting to level 99 by repeatedly killing elephants in the final dungeon actually wasn't that bad, the real annoying part of the platinum was getting one of each item in the game, some of which are rare drops from certain enemies. Since you can't leave the final dungeon once entered, I had to load up a save file prior to doing so and farmed the rest of the items needed, except one which is, of course, in the final dungeon itself (I had the all armor, weapons, helms, and shields in the first run).

Wondering if I should give Secret of Mana another chance because I didn't like it when I played it the first time, though that was a very long time ago. Maybe instead I will simply move on to Trials of Mana instead.

As someone who loves Secret of Mana and will often name-drop it if asked for a favorite game, my opinion is HEAVILY tinted by nostalgia and I would understand completely if someone didn't care for it. Though if you've finished Seiken Densetsu 1, I can't imagine any reason you'd dislike 2 but enjoy 3.

Well, no, I can. The AI-controlled party members getting stuck constantly is annoying. You learn to maniupate them, but it's still a nuisance. Plus there's the obvious legacy of the game being compressed to fit on a cartridge leading to a story that's very empty and rushed at the end. But my biggest gripe with the game is how long it takes to level magic, and you could just...not do that. (I suspect there will be related achievements, though.)
