Much less. By my age, my mom had an impressive teaching career and my dad worked at the Exxon chemical plant. His job was extremely hard to get and he had to have tons of offshore oilfield work, college degrees, and my grandfather (my moms dad) was so important to the company and nation that the White House sent him a letter saying that he was too important to the nation to be sent to WW2 to fight. He put in a good word for my dad, too. Thats how tough it was to get that job, so I can honestly say that nothing Ive done has even come close to eclipsing my parents success by my age.

They also owned a house and had kids, which I dont have and cannot afford. In my defense, their generation got to keep their paychecks and things were not as cartoonishly expensive as they are now. An average house in my city is like $700,000 when the same houses sold to my parents generation for less than $100,000.

Than my dad? Prolly not more successful in terms of income, but I'm still with my first (only) wife, and I know my son. So like, it all averages out.

Than my mom? Oh so much. Like, soooo much.

Less, and yes, I am sure it bothered them, but they were wonderful parents, and were never too hard on me. But the on the other hand I was able to take care of them and they got to spend the last years of their lives at home instead of nursing home. And I will always be grateful I was able to do that for them.

Cool. My dad also worked for Exxon as a manager until 2008 when there were lots of layoffs. Remember him traveling to Dallas and Brazil a lot. Of course that means Im less successful at 35.

My parents depended on low wage jobs and food stamps to raise us. Plus we generally lived in a place until we missed rent for some reason then moved to somewhere cheaper.

Kinda both.

Socially, I'm so far behind that it's not even funny. They had been married for about 14-5 years at my age. My brother was 12ish, and I was about 10. They both had friends and big family circles. Coworkers that they got along with and just all around had a lot of people in their lives.

Me, not so much. Nothing at all to show for myself. No friends. Not dating, never had any kind of significant other. I feel like such a loser being nearly 40 being in this situation. It bothers me a lot, and I'm sure it bothers them too.

On the other hand, despite working constantly they had no money. Dad blew all his the instant he got it. All of mom's went towards bills and food. Often had to let the power be cut so we could have food, or go hungry for a week till she got paid again.

On that note, once my brother and I grew up and got jobs we managed to get the household on it's feet and have all of us start saving money. We actually managed to get ahead of the bills and can actually afford some luxuries now. I haven't been employed for quite a while, but my savings and some other endeavors have paid enough to keep my finances on a slow decline instead of a nosedive. I believe I've currently got more money than either of my parents have ever had... Which isn't even a lot. It's a lot to us, but almost certainly not to some of you. :/

So yeah, I'm more financially secure than they were.

It's very possible that I've passed them already, but they had me very late, so I know very little about their finances in their 30's. But I know if I reach 6 figures by around 46/47, I'll have surpassed my mom. And I'm only 33 now, so that's definitely going to happen.

It depends.

My salary now compared to my dads at my age is approximately 3 times greater.
Im single and childless. By my age he had 2 sons.
I live by myself in a house. By my age he had a house as well, but slightly smaller.
I have a Masters degree whereas he was a high school dropout that spent 8 years in the military.
I have more of the frivolous things I want like cars, guitars, etc. but he had greater fitness (the Darwin kind, not physique) and had reached a level of maturity I simply havent due to not experiencing fatherhood.

My parent makes more than me, married, and still has the nerve to act like she's poor and ask for money - me on the other hand can be financially stable with, or without employment being debt free.

Taught me a lesson - doesn't matter how much money you have if you are just bad with money management. So, on that level I guess i would be more successful.

Also don't care much for how my family is doing financially since i don't depend on them.

That sucks you feel that way, it's a shame you see yourself as a loser just because of other people. They really aren't important enough to get upset by, most people are really very worthless. I'm sure you're more interesting than the average person at the very least

i mean, i'm way more successful than they were at my age, but they're miles ahead of me atm
so it's kinda a toss up there i guess
my dad went to prison for a year over weed when he was my age
my dad was a total hippie (went to woodstock and shit) and smoked weed semi-regularly
had literally never been in trouble in his life and his dealer set him up as the fall guy all under the guise of "helping him" by paying for his attorney (who was actually in business with the dealer and keeping my dad from talking)
he and my mom own a super successful business and have a lot of commercial real estate investments now tho

Embrace the nihilism.
My younger brother has a hot asian wife and three kids, and that's why I told the family trust to make him the executor.

I'm just here. Got a house I can pay off today, a backlog of videogames I'll never finish, and enough Lego sets in a closet to retire comfortably.
