First match is hard because it's basically "A sounds better" vs. "B is more what I look for in music". Initially I was leaning towards 347wh8dh78ah because first impressions tend to be based on how the music sounds, but ultimately, the one that has what I'm looking for has to win out.... in this case. ("what sounds good" is generally what I look for in music, true, but there's a lot of "good sounding" music that isn't sufficiently unique to make me want to come back to it)

Second match is awesome! A hard choice yet again. Actually, I keep forgetting that I love the first half of Frozen Depths, but not so much when the full-on melody enters, so maybe it's not such a hard choice.

Mira is one of my favorites from nominations!

z5m20i12r04a28 is a pretty awe-inspiring song. One of my personal favorites from the XCX soundtrack. The sitar, the percussion, the vocal samples, the Mika Kobayashi vocals towards the end, they all work perfectly together to create a sense of grandness. Also, I'd recommend this fanmade video showcasing some of the scenery of Xenoblade X timed to z5. It's really cool. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvTdoWE8HjY) I like the intro of National Park, but the rest doesn't really interest me. It'd be interesting to hear a version of this with live instruments though.

CATALINA is probably my second favorite song from UW2. I love the piano in this one. The acoustic guitar intro is very cool, and the double bass throughout is really impressive as well. But the piano is definitely the highlight of the piece. At the Frozen Depths of the Heart is also pretty good. Nice soundscape to this one with the mallet percussion, piano, percussion, and vocals. Second half is less good, but still good. Hard for me to vote against CATALINA's piano tho.

I like the guitar riff that dominates BCBWaBG. Nice sax as well. Very fun song. Fairy Reflection is also fun, though the vocals aren't my favorite. So Sonic gets the advantage in this match.

Very good day today with only one song I didn't like.

Match 2 is interesting. I love being taken on a chill journey with Uncharted tracks, Catalina's piano ride is no exception. Frozen Depths gets really good halfway through but that's not enough today I'm afraid!
Cool, wild and groovy are very fitting descriptions for Icecap. I like Fairy Reflection more than I remember from noms.

This do be a "Games I like the OSTs of a lot roll songs I don't like that much moment. Pretty weak day for me aside from the snubs match in which I almost voted against myself

i was dreading this matchup when i first saw it until i realised that i was thinking of a completely different song ^^; oops. this is, by no means, a bad song, but it is what i point to when it comes to music that can overwhelm my senses. i don't know whether it is a neurodivergent thing or not, but i had to listen to it twice. i think after settling on it, i appreciate what it does but idk if it is for me. i absolutely love the lead in to national park, pleasant inviting chords it really does feel like you've entered a new calm. i am someone who's favourite hgss songs are ones that didn't originate from this game or are heavily remixed - sinjoh, route 47, ho-oh battle - but national park reminds me of how hgss had a real good basis to begin with. bad matchup for xenoblade though. i'd honestly have a tougher time with most of the other songs in that set.

catalina is one of my favourites from when i first listened to uncharted waters music. very nice how it unfolds and evolves over time. whoa!! this wild arms song has such a cool texture this one starts to lose me a little as it adds more to the composition (i love TEXTURE!!!) but wow it is still cool. i did not expect to vote against uncharted waters...

sonic adventure's ost is usually a fun time and this is no exception. fun energy all around tbh. i'm not the biggest fan of fairy reflection's vocals, but they aren't a deal breaker to me. this is one of those kind of songs where the lyrics kinda just don't matter as much to me. icecap wins this round, as there's more i like and less i dislike.
