Everything my brother sends me from over there is fucking delicious. Their candy is on an entirely different plane of existence.

Just finished eating 5 bars before I realized. A Giotto, two Knoppers NussRiegels, and two of these giant ass MilkaMMMAX bars.

How come northern europe has pastries DOWN but the savory foods range from meh to wtf >_>

Outside of breakfast, English food is garbage.

I would imagine that European candy is so rich that you can't eat much of it in one sitting

This could be totally off but during WW2 wasn't rationing a HUGE thing? I know it affected the US as well, but perhaps to not such an extent? Anyway, I think it instilled an entire generation, there (Europe), with a serious mind for moderation.

Most everything was rationed in the US during the war. My mom would always tell us about the time her cousin wasted one of their shoe stamps on a pair of roller skates.

Less sugar in basically everything. America does everything in its power to come up with new chemicals that are just fancy ways to say "sugar" without needing to label them. It's also why the food is consistently dubious in quality.

And yeah, having socialist policies helps a ton. Food is a very distant second.

As an example here in Portugal, I bought one of those premade sandwiches that you see in US gas stations (ham sandwich, for example). If you look at the calories in that, it'll be somewhere between 400-600 calories in the US.

But the same basic sandwich bought out of an automat vending machine here in a "Spot24h"... only has around 220 calories.

It's got two slices of bread, a mayo spread, lettuce, tomato, ham, and cheese. But less than half the calories.

Why?

Because the bread has no sugar in it.
The cheese is real cheese and not an artificial oil-based cheese product.
The ham is a real slice of ham and not a reconstituted slurry reformed into a ham slice.
The mayo is real mayo and not made of artificial ingredients... and doesn't have sugar in it.

Also, people don't drive everywhere in Europe. There's a *LOT* more walking from place to place. You'll easily walk around 3 miles a day or more, because everything is not spaced out as much.

So you'll walk a half-mile to a restaurant for dinner... and then a half-mile back home. And walk another mile (round trip) to get a cup of coffee. And then take another mile walk after dinner.

Plus you'll walk to the grocery store and back, or to other local markets. Or to do many of your errands.

A car is only necessary for long trips or for when you can't easily carry something from point A to point B.

Or if you live in a really rural area.

Where do you work? Some companies can allow it over a "12" month period, with special permission -- but from experience that means you have like 2 or 3 months off of any work to balance it out -- big companies are quite strict about this, because they're fined if not.

Probably because they have and teach each other portion control, and from my time in the USA, most of you have issues with gluttony and no self control when it comes to snacking or food intake.

I still remember getting 1 serving at the first restaurant I went to in the USA. And it was fucking massive. Way too much for a serving, so much that I gave some to a family at the next table over.

Generally speaking in Europe everything is smaller portions. They also don't add sugar to literally everything. Plain ass white bread made in America has sugar in it. You can't even buy shit like that in Europe. You get bread the way God intended.

The misleading part is acting like everyone has a 6 hour work week just because Saturday is technically a work day. I work from Monday to Friday just like most people and nobody gives a shit if I work for 9 hours.

Finally found one I don't like. These German m&ms are mid. Smarties I think they were called. To be fair though, I don't like actual m&ms either.

Milka MMMax bars are amazing. Theyre like Marabou giant bars but much cheaper.
