The game releases tonight!

If you're on the west coast and haven't preordered, head over to your local Gamestop and pick up a copy at 9PM.

Which version and starter will you all be choosing? And if anyone wants to do multiplayer let me know.

I'm going with Violet and I'm choosing either the grass starter or the water starter.

I got a digital copy of violet but work overnight so I'll try seeing if I can make a hotspot with my phone to be able to play. Otherwise I'll have to wait til Friday morning after work. ;-; Weed cat all the way, especially after the leaks.

The long wait until 9PM, Fuecoco is the way

So it isn't like SwSh where you have to either trade or join in a hosted raid for the other version? I got a number of exclusives like that, being on at the right time and lucking out.

i'm not entirely sure, i just remember hearing somewhere you can explore in peoples violet games

I read you need to be close to the person whose game you joined, otherwise you see your own version exclusive Pokemon.

Is it like Sword/Shield where 200+ Pokmon are unobtainable or even transferable?

Yes, dexit continues. Also hisuan forms seem to be restricted to people using pokemon home. Though you might be able to evolve things like hisuan growlithe into hisuan arcanine, you can't evolve basculin into basculegion.

I bought the digital version of Scarlet, and will be picking the grass cat.

So excited! Hoping it releases right at midnight (I'm on the east coast).

In theory, due to how weird my sleep schedule has been, I'll probably go to bed at like, 2 PM today and wake up right at midnight to play the game
But in reality I probably won't actually be able to sleep...

I have to wait for my physical copy to show up on Friday, but that's alright. At least I work from home and Fridays are usually slow.

Why are people picking up their physical copies at GameStop? You can get if for $10 cheaper at Wal-Mart.

i am pretty blind too and have avoided leaks. i dont even know what the starters evolve into, nor any of the new pokemon aside from the ones they've done official trailers for.

Overall I'm having an enjoyable time with it

The battle text feels glacial though, and no dynamic scaling for the gyms/story content is bad, and they took away the thing from PLA where shinies would sparkle/play an audio cue on the overworld so unless it's a really obvious shiny they are easier to miss, and having only 4 preset outfits kinda sucks

Probably going to wait until Christmas to grab Scarlet here, as with SwSh I'm not feeling interested enough to spend my own money on it

I buy almost exclusively digital. Highly recommend.

It's pretty nice because you can either download the game as soon as it comes out, or even earlier if it supports preloading like Scarlet/Violet do. Then you can play it right at midnight if it releases then (which in this case, I believe it does), rather than wasting time waiting for your Gamestop to open, going to get the game, then going back home and putting the game in, only to find there's a Day 1 patch that you need to install anyway... It's especially good (by which I mean "the only practical option") if you're like me and can't drive to get to a shop that has the game.

But the Switch only has 32 GBs of storage space naturally, so if you get a lot of games, you'd better invest in a decently sized SD card. I have a 32 GB SD card in addition to the 32 GBs of system memory and I find myself deleting games to make room for new ones all the time. So I'd definitely recommend 64 GB or higher.

Agreed. Digital convenience is easily worth the cost of an additional SD card.

My girlfriend got burned when she pre-ordered Arceus, but it didn't show up until like two days later. Digital totally eliminates that.

The only game I have physical on Switch is Shining Pearl. (EDIT: And Ring Fit but that doesn't count because I think it's ONLY physical. Haha, I get it.) That's just because I didn't want to delete my other Pokemon games because I was afraid it'd wipe my data if I did that (since Pokemon games are one of the few games on Switch that don't have the cloud based save backup NSO members get).

I later just bit the bullet and deleted some anyway and it seems to be fine.

I wanted to get Violet physically too since I don't have a lot of space, but apparently the game is only a little more than 6 GBs? Like, Sword and Shield were like... 13 each. Scarlet and Violet are open world. WTF. It works out well though since I really have no guaranteed way of getting Scarlet or Violet on release day physically, since I didn't pre-order (the only Gamestop near me closed a while back)

Nintendo eShop is probably the safer bet, epsecially if you have some Gold points already so you can get the schweet schweet discount, but you could try Amazon if you already have money on there. I don't have much experience with Amazon but I'd think if you ordered now, they'd give you the digital code right after you pay even though the game isn't out yet, since technically Scarlet and Violet were available for pre-ordering/pre-loading.

Don't quote me on that though; if I were you I'd go with the eShop, just to be safe. But I'm also overly cautious about everything.

Good points. I forgot about the Gold Points. I have 273 apparently. Guess I'll go Nintendo since it guarantees pre-loading. I see it on their website now.

I can't possibly imagine a reason to go through Amazon instead of straight to Nintendo (again aside from if you have money to spend in Amazon)

I have the Amazon Store Card which gives 5% discount on everything (although as I'm typing this, I'm suddenly remember it doesn't even work on digital codes I think). I went through Nintendo got basically the same discount through my gold points. If it was a physical release, I'd absolutely go through Amazon since Nintendo doesn't do release day delivery.

For my Wal-Mart it is. It was $50 for Sw/Sh, BDSP and PLA.

Ok cool, I've never bought digital for switch so I'm glad dey work ok. I also just bought an SD card, 500 something GB lol
