Is it solely because his endorsed candidates failed or because they had an epiphany of some sort?

The funny thing is that Trump's already ruined the GOP. The Trumpers will either vote for Trump as an independent, or not vote out of spite.

This. The GOP base is one thing, they'll vote for whoever the party tells them to. Trumpers are a cult though. They are in it for him and fascist bullshit. If he tells them the party fucked him over they won't vote for the GOP.

That's the thing about fascism. Who is part of the in-group and out-group is entirely based on convenience. There will be infighting in the Grand Old Party, and one side will be the in-group after the dust settles. The rest will fall in line or be forced out.

Fascism has no end game, it's a repeating cycle of making temporary alliances with certain undesirables only to discard them when they're no longer needed.

This part I'm interested in seeing how it plays out.

Will life long "R no matter what" Republicans that begrudgingly supported Trump for 6 years just move on to the next Republican?

Will the new found political enthusiasts that got into it because of Trump and fell for his rhetoric just stop paying attention, or will they pivot to whoever ends up with the nomination, even if they're a "normal politician"?

Will Trump run independent? Will he run at all, or just announce he's running to fill up his pockets for a bit and then never file the papers to run?

I turned on him because he kept claiming fraud after Jan 6th, in addition to his covid denial/anti-mask shit. Then I took a look back and realized how well he duped me into thinking he was the only one telling me the truth.

It's crazy to think back on.

They found out they cant go full extremist and will dial it back for a round or two untill they can implement it again without anyone having a legal ability to stop it.

From Reddit:

Answer: most of the recent scorn is stemming from the republicans tepid performance in the midterms. In almost every state save for New York and Florida, republicans did very poorly compared to expectations. This is especially true of trump endorsed candidates. Most All of Trumps senate candidates save for JD Vance and maybe Walker have lost, ensuring the dems keep the senate another 2 years. All election denying republican candidates for secretaries of state and governors (save for Kari Lake of AZ, whose race is still a tossup) have also lost.

Basically, many republicans are starting to see trump as a massive political liability (because recently, its pretty indisputable that he is). He divides the gop base, endorses extremist candidates, picks fights with some of the few popular figures in party leadership, and most importantly: is losing the party seats at what shouldve been an EASY midterm victory. Many of the things that worked to get him elected are now working against him and the gop

Lastly, trump has recently come out swinging at DeSantis (who, like I mentioned earlier, is probably the most single handed Republican success story of the last couple years). If the republicans want to have a shot at winning nationally, they need to take notes from desantis, and I think its pissing a lot of GOP talking heads off that their golden leader is taking petty shots at a popular gop gov. It just makes the party look in disarray, and will cause divide amongst the electorate. Edit: He also has been harsh towards Glenn Youngkin, literally one of the only other breakout Republican candidates of the last couple years. He flipped VA, a now fairly blue state.
