ever since I heard that the director of New Vegas was inspired by Disco Elysium, and this was the result, I knew I had to play it.

...I don't have a platform to do so on, though, so I might end up watching some playthroughs.

To knock your excitement down a peg, he wasn't inspired by Disco and has said a few times he wants to distance his game from the comparisons. It's been a passion project he's been wanting to do for like two decades or so now.

They straight up do this too often for it to be anything other than doing it for the clout. They did used to deny it, but I don't think they bother anymore.

They'll try to justify it saying vague things like parts of the game were too slow, too boring, cringey, if the game has anime, that's a good usual target

Gamespot head editor was also doing streams, and he sounded like a little baby with too much power. He was bitching about gaming in general, so I dunno why he's in this industry. They definitely treat this as a numbers game rather than an attempt at a legitimate gaming review website

Click and point, sort of. You talk to characters, ask questions, try to solve things and then come up with an answer you think fits (and can change depending on what you uncover etc)

Essentially like Disco Elysium in that regard.

Finished Act 2 and stopping there for the night, but this game is REALLY good. I've grown really fond of the art style, which I wasn't at first, and I love seeing how the town and characters develop. I have some minor quibbles, not a lot.

I watched ACG on yt review this. It has a cool look and it's neat it's a passion project of the guy from Obsidian *scrolls up oh yeah Josh*. I am finishing up my first visual novel ever, but I don't think I could quite play this game? This is totally something I'd watch somebody play.

I just finished it, myself. I loved it. Very intimate, heartfelt story that had an interesting mystery revolving around a small crappy little town that I grew to love along with its residents. Good protagonist, too.

For real. Simplest answer is the reviewer just didn't like the game. Not everyone is going to vibe with every game.

Ideal thing to do is either find someone who does like that style of game to review it or for the reviewer to note that it is simply their opinion and not necessarily the game that has an issue.
