Isn't Jeff Bezos no longer the CEO of Amazon? I thought he stepped down.

Yeah I saw some Amazon employees blowing the whistle about it on blind last week. And of course it will impact recruiting first and I wouldnt be surprised if they sneak in more from other departments not listed.

This market is making me so nervous as a recruiter.

In corporate and technology roles it says. So I imagine no one in the distribution and delivery chain is getting laid off, specially with the holidays around the corner.

In recent months, Amazon shut down its telehealth service, discontinued a quirky, video-calling projector for kids, closed all but one of its U.S. call centers, axed its roving delivery robot, shuttered underperforming brick-and-mortar chains, and is closing, canceling or delaying some new warehouse locations.

Going all "google" with those soon-abandoned pet projects, I see.

Yeah this is all corporate. HR, recruiting, Program Managers, software engineers, etc. Mostly those in the devices departments like Alexa because they are losing money there.

I have a friend in recruiting at Google and shes now sweating bullets too. The tech industry is a shit show

It has been more than a year since he left. Probably just like Microsoft where some people still think Bill Gates runs the day to day operations despite him leaving the company years ago.

My mother who works for the USPS gets Amazon packages they have to deliver all the time (and of course, it stresses her out), so I am sure Bozos will probably cut delivery staff and let the USPS deal with everything.

Bezos still owns more of Amazon than anyone else and is definitely still highly involved.

Sounds familiar. I know people in the USPS whove been saying the same thing, and theyve also been saying thats the main reason for the USPS still being a thing these days since the folks at the top of the totem pole foolishly decided way back when that they were only going to have full responsibility over delivering letters and that packages were fair game to any third party delivery service. Then the Internet happened, and now theyre having to do Amazons dirty work to stay afloat.

The post office will not bend over for "today by 8PM" delivery times.

Layoffs have started based on my feed. Looks like some research teams, Alexa and their cloud gaming are getting impacted. Many of them are immigrants on H1B that need to find a new job or fly home.

From what Ive been seeing, they laid off Robotics, Alexa and Luna teams. Most seem junior 1-3 years of xp and H1B holders. Seems to be mostly engineering. Some product and QA folks

That sucks. I admired a lot of the people on Visas who worked there. That said, Amazon benefited from the fact that they needed the Visa or else they'd probably work for a better company. In that way they bought in to the company culture harder than anyone. At least, until they got a green card.
