I've been decently into horror for the past few years, kept up with most big new releases, and of course have seen most of the super big classics (Halloween, Texas Chainsaw, Nightmare, etc.)

Past few months I've been trying to dive a little deeper tho, particularly within the slasher genre. I know a lot old school slashers that aren't the big classics tend to get a lot of flak, but honestly I've been really enjoying a lot of them. Been working through the Halloween, Nightmare, and Friday sequels, that's been a fun trip. Also recently watched The Slumber Party Massacre, Slumber Party Massacre 2, and Chopping Mall, and I had a blast with all 3 of those.

Not 80s, but I also watched Jack Frost recently. Obviously has some... problems... But as a whole, I actually really enjoyed how goofy it was. Although Jack Frost was probably my least favorite part of his own movie. >_>

If ya'll have any recs for other films in this kind of vein, I'd love to hear them. While I love "legit scary" horror that takes itself seriously, I've recently come to really appreciate the more goofy and campy side of horror too.

I've seen the first one; honestly didn't love it, but I watched it a long time ago, probably deserves a revisit.

Chopping Mall was fun. I saw it in the theater as part of a b-movie celebration and got to shake the director's hand.

Oh shit, that's awesome.

I'm glad I've finally developed an appreciation for B-movies. Some of them like Chopping Mall are just such a fun time if you go in with an open mind.

I thought he was one of the promoters. I shook his hand. We talked for a minute or two about the lineup. Later on that night, when they welcomed the director on stage, it was him.

In terms of slashers Id start off by recommending Terror Train, The Burning, Black Christmas, Sleepaway Camp, My Bloody Valentine, Fun House, The House on Sorority Row, Manic Cop, Chopping Mall, Basket Case, Motel Hell, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Blood Rage, Alice Sweet Alice, Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer, Tourist Trap, Silent Night Deadly Night, Christmas Evil, Popcorn, Blood Diner.

Some of those are 70s-90s, but mostly 80s. If I was to recommend anything modern in the slasher genre I always recommend Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. Oh and Final Girls is great!

Theres a ton of slashers outside of the Jasons, Freddy, Myers, and Leatherface. Pretty much everything is about the same quality outside of the main ones so you cant go wrong if youre looking for some fun mindless slaughter.
