the worst one for me was a long time ago now and it still stings.
the topic was, "does it look unprofessional to use a @yahoo or @gmail email address?"

i replied, "yes, it's extremely unprofessional, cheap, plebeian. a custom domain is best"

well of course the mods somehow took it as I was calling the tc "plebeian" even tho i was obviously referring to @yahoo email addresses since that's what the topic was about. i appealed that thing as much as i could and the final appeal was just some anonymous asswipe saying "you don't really expect me to believe that, do you?" it was maddening. i have no faith in them to ever do the right thing if they couldn't do it then

The mods should at least tell you way you were modded it, when you contest the modderation. I don't think they even read them now.

I got modded for saying the vaccine didnt stop you spreading covid.

Also got modded for pirating for saying I was playing a game that had come out in the UK but not the US yet.

Lmao remember when you could never say you were streaming a movie online and it was an immediate warn for piracy.

Yeah I ended up feeling it was best to not talk about covid in a "factually" manner. I never got modded for it but I've seen people get suspended on Facebook for lesser "misinformation" posts.

There was a time in the early 2000s when I tried to argue OOT Link was homosexual (being extremely clear that I thought it would be cool to have a canonical gay main character in a game) and I think an alt or two actually got banned over it.

A few months ago someone on another board openly bragged about using off site information to track down where other gamefaqs users lived and got a gun pulled on him for his troubles. I got a month suspension for saying that pulling a gun on an internet stalker finding your home is the rational thing to do (its apparently EXTREMELY offensive).

I've had plenty of moderation that I know damn well were valid, but also had just enough straight-up horse shit upheld that I genuinely have no reason to respect the rules anyways.

Seldom. Can probably count on one hand maybe start on mybsecond hand how many times.

Think most of my moderations came from being drunk and someone managed to egg me on until I said something "mean" like fuck off. Think that was my most recent actually and it was literally because they attacked me personally instead of my argument.

I personally feel mods should review the whole conversation in cases like that. If the other party clearly egged the person on they should both be modded.

I'm just not the type to mark people. I feel like it when stupid shitblike that happens but I don't cause it feels like I'm being petty for revenge sakes

I've literally never cared enough to contest a moderation even when I knew it was 100% BS.

I once got modded for spoilers on the WoW board for saying a boss had a death animation (which is a generic term, boss doesn't even die lore wise). It was upheld because "it was off topic anyway", since I was talking about an expansion and not the base game (with literally every topic being about the current expansion). Finally it was upheld by admin, because "I was rude in my appeal".

It was insane.

I frequently get modded for not being nice to Nazis, transphobes, racists, and other trolls of similar stripes.

I've had times where I was rightfully modded but the punishment was way out of line lmao

Getting a 6 month purg over something that should have been a warn at worst, just because there was a 6 month purg (back before 6 month purgs and higher would expire), is just crazy

There was one, just one, where the mod was adamant I was being homophobic. Even intentional misinterpretation couldn't have been so wrong, but I figured if they were that dumb, there was no point fighting it.
