IMO yes

Especially those that are deadbeats to their debts and avoid paying what they owe on purpose

I'm pretty sure rich or well off people don't have collectors calling them about unpaid debts.

I am able to tell y'all this too because I grew up poor and I know for sure a lot of poor people don't pay their payday loans or credit card bills

I wouldn't even be surprised if people who live in Rich or upper class neighborhoods see it as ghetto if you don't pay your debts

What do you mean?

You get sent to collections if you don't pay your debts and that looks very bad on your credit

Wrong lol. You'd be surprised. Or maybe your misconception over what "rich" is. I assume big house + luxury car. If you mean debtless, well, ofcourse debtless people dont have collectors calling

I wouldn't call it trashy, but it would destroy your credit score. So I'd avoid leaving debts unpaid, it if you can actually pay them.

Wait why would people who can afford houses in upper middle class or rich neighborhoods and can afford luxury cars have debt collectors calling them?

Im pretty damn sure they have the income to afford all that

Plenty of people try to live beyond their means. Or their income drops, but they continue trying to live the life they used to. Either because they want to keep up the appearance of wealth, or they got too used to it and refuse to adjust.

How and why do the rich do things like this?

The consequences to not paying your debts are very bad. Your credit will get destroyed, youll get sent to collections, you wont be able to secure any decent credit cards, you wont be able get decent rates on home loans, some jobs wont hire you due to your bad credit, and more

why would the rich even think about ruining their life like that if they have the means to pay it?

hint - credit is not the be all end all. you don't need a fab credit score when you got a house and car already. collections get wiped off after 7 years too. it's not that big a deal

It's a totally different ballgame for rich. You can just hire a person to game the system for you.

If they can afford to hire someone to game the system for them, why not just save the money and pay the debts?

It sounds like the same cost

When you're dealing with a lot of capital it's cheaper to pay for an accountant than it is to pay your debts.

I remember having cancer without insurance... Couldn't pay the bills (I was 17 and took responsibility of them so it didn't screw my parents over) as I was literally making minimum wage. I think I owed close to 200k. One debt collector called and said "sir, you received a service don't you think you need to pay for that service?" I was like I had cancer not liked I asked for that to happen. It was testicular cancer so not like my lifestyle contributed to it happening.. I guess I was supposed to just die so it wouldn't cost anyone any money...

When my wife had our daughter the hospital called about setting up a payment plan. I said I would pay like $50 every month, more if I had it. They said it wasn't good enough and wanted $150. I told them I didn't think we could afford that and didn't want to over commit when I wasn't sure I could make the payment. They refused to take what I said I could pay so I didn't worry about it. Screw them.

The only debt I have other than car payments and my mortgage are medical bills. I always pay everything except the medical. It's just a racket in my opinion. Without insurance I can pay $94 to see my doctor. With insurance I had a $15 copay and got a bill for close to $200. I'm dropping my insurance and will just pay cash.

I mean I kinda get it. But when you have crappy insurance it's just not worth it. To cover my wife and kids would be close to $400 every two weeks. I bring home about $975 every two weeks so I definitely can't afford it. And like I said I think it's cheaper for me to pay cash (minus the tax penalty. I'm going to research that).

Well I did some quick Google searches and it looks like the federal mandate to have insurance ended in 2018. That's welcome news. Definitely not signing back up this year.

If Trump really did that then that's not too shabby. I never agreed with the mandate at all. Might be one of the best things Trump did (I also agreed with him raising the age to buy tobacco). Doesn't nearly make up for all the bad, but it's hard to not get behind that.
