I thought it was fine right up to the end, when JW turned on his no fall damage cheat codes. It irks me that this is a resurging trend in action movies - it's like every director / screenwriter saw Captain America walk off some nasty falls in Winter Soldier / Civil War and thought their own heroes could do the same, forgetting the key fact that Cap is a literal super-soldier.

I'm a bit concerned about this one seeing as the guy who co-created the series and wrote the previous three films wasn't involved.

But on the other hand, these movies have been proving me wrong since the very first one, so hopefully this one is great too.

2nd one - Awesome movie.
3rd one - Alright movie.
4th one - Looks meh movie.

it's not really no fall damage when he's literally wheeled towards morpheus at the end...

I've enjoyed them all. Looking forward to this and 5. They were filmed back to back

3 was better than 2, dunno what you guys are on.

1 was the most grounded, but the budget did seem to run out a bit at the end.

3 was the most balls-to-the-wall crazy, even if it strained suspension of disbelief.

2 was some weird middle-ground where the villains were meh.

In my opinion

Story: 2 > 1 > 3
Action Sequences: 3 > 2 > 1

All three movies have been fantastic overall, imo

Pretty much this. The story is ancillary to all the dumb awesome action scenes and all 3 have been chock-full of dumb awesome action scenes.

Yeah, the story is just a backdrop for all the stylish murder action. Really, we're just getting from point A to point B of awesome.

Granted I skipped the 2nd movie, but unless he got some sort of superscience serum or magic shield in that movie that I'm unaware of, John Wick is not superhuman; he either should've ended up a greasy smear on the pavement, or broken every bone in his body. Unless he actually goes through a noteworthy recovery period at the start of 4 (which isn't out of the realm of possibility), it's a unwelcome and implausible instance of plot armor.

But you're right in that it's not exactly an instance of no-fall-damage like Black Widow or The Batman; it's actually closer in nature to *Game of Thrones spoilers* Arya sleeping off a vicious gut-knifing and parkouring all over Braavos the next day, which IMO is way worse. But again, this is assuming the writers fail to address this with a substantial recovery period, which they may very well do; some of the lines in the trailer make it seem possible that a timeskip occurred.

You do know why the first movie was such a smash success, right? I'm fairly confident it wasn't because it was some schlocky, over-the-top action fest with no grounding in reality.

Pretty sure they've all been successful because they've all been bad ass.
