I'm at 179lbs. I've been the exact same weight since I was 20 years old (Now i'm 33). It fluctuates from 178-179.

But I want to get to low 160s now. I've tried many times in the past and usually I'm on course but I get derailed with work related things. My work should finally be steady and predictable, so as of December 1st, I'm ready to be on a regular schedule.

What was the strategy that actually led to success for you guys?

train everyday to see real progress.

also how tall are you? im 6' and i was up to 240 during covid. down to 184 now. i think without any fat id be like 170 or so.

ALSO, count calories for like 2 weeks and you'll lose weight. start a spreadsheet. count 100% every calorie, even a single grape or w/e. measure out ketchup etc. so you know exactly what you are eating. if you cook a big dinner, calculate the calories in the entire pot, divide by the servings, etc

This is going back a while, as my son is now 14, but...

I was 305 pounds (I'm 6-1) the day my son was born. My wife got pregnant, but I gained the weight.

I was able to get down to 265ish fairly quickly, but then lost A LOT of weight when my job did a "Biggest Loser" challenge.

I got way too obsessed with my weight, to the point of being unhealthy. I got all the way down to 185, and I looked terrible. So I "worked" my way back up to around 225, where I am now. Could I afford to get down to 205ish? Maybe, but I have a fairly large frame, and anything under 200 pounds make me look more sick than in shape.

The fact that you don't have a lot to lose, most of it can probably be done with the simple "watch what you eat" and mild exercise. Get a food counting app, like myfitnesspal, and track what you eat.

If all you care about is the number on the scale, it's as simple as counting calories.

Eat candy & drink pop or whatever ; as long as you only eat 1500-1700 calories a day and you will lose 1-1/2 lbs. a week.

Burn more than you take in

Easier said than done but whenever I want to drop weight fast I basically starve myself for a couple weeks while also working out hard. I feel like death the entire time but then I start eating normal and dial back the exercise a bit to maintain it.

Then the holidays hit and I start it all over again lol

every time i have a choice to eat something i don't need to, i think the same thing. i have to choose the healthy option even when it's hard.

even when it's hard
even when it's hard
even when it's hard

not saying my results have been stellar but that phrase has helped me so much.

-consistency is key and the fact is that the only "diet" that actually works is the one you carry with you to your death.
so instead of short term solutions like "dieting" maybe think about what your food intake should look like everyday from now on until you die and that includes room for the shitty stuff.

for instance out of the shitty stuff today i ate two french dogs(mostly for the protein and calorie amount), drank a few cups of lemonade throughout the day at work and a few candies, 3x3 squares of chocolate at home and just finished an ice cream cone before bed.

-weight training(or any type of training really) allows you to consume shit food without guilt and even sometimes binging is considered necessary to achieve certain results.
on that note claiming you don't have 2~ hours of free time say 3x times a week is an excuse. nobody is really that busy or tired.

Take time to really plan out your diet for the week, sticking to a diet is the most important thing, I made a spreadsheet w/ all my meals and their macro nutrients/calories to calculate everything for the week. My Fitness Pal or another app that tracks food also helps a ton. You can eat pretty good food and stay around 1800 calories pretty easy, just look up some recipes.

  • Seeing losing weight through healthy eating as a lifestyle change instead of a diet (diets are temporary. Been losing weight (today is day 100 actually) and I still eat stuff I like. Segways into:
  • Calorie counting and looking into the food you eat. I massively slashed sodium and sugar intake. Quit cold turkey on caffeine. It has made a ton of difference for me. Like I said I still eat stuff I like, just cutting out the egregious stuff that just isnt compatible with living a healthy lifestyle.
  • Healthy living habits. I purchased blue light glasses to filter out harmful light while gaming. Started sleeping earlier. I exercise 6 days a week.
Granted I started from a much unhealthier position than youre in. I have seen a lot of progress though but am wondering when the first plateau hits.

My app of choice for calorie counting is Lose It! The free version works well, and you can scan bar codes for easy meal inputting.

Everytime you fail you learn how to not fuck up the next time

I'm currently losing weight because of stress and work, not intentionally. And yes I know that's bad

The most important thing is to adopt permanent healthier eating habits. You can brute force weight loss with unhealthy food, but you will feel miserable. Since becoming a vegan, I have tried to stick to a whole-foods, plant-based diet, and it's helped me a lot. Even if you don't intend to go full vegan eating more foods like that will probably do you a lot of good.

I'll often fail going on cuts because I'll stress eat. Once I manage to actually do it for like 2 days it's not that hard to stick to a proper weight loss diet for a few months though. Starting properly is an issue.

Also, when I'm eating clean, alcohol makes me feel awful so i need to ease into it with bad foods a day or two before that. It's often difficult to avoid social activities that involve eating/drinking so it puts me in danger of falling off of my diet for a bit.

Yeah. TLDR more than anything is calorie count. Your weight breakdown is 80% diet and 20% exercise.
