Than what even the reviews led me to believe. First of all WHY make the show during contemporary times and make it the last blockbuster? Oh so you can make a lot of unfunny jokes about tik tok and social media so zoomers can relate. Second the jokes suuuck, so generic and forced. Its like the characters are aware of the cringey dialogue so theyre having a hard time doing natural deliveries.

Seriously, I thought this wouldve been an easy hit, trying to cater to millennials nostalgia with jokes about old tech, the movies that were popular back then and so on, while celebrating such a big part of what made our lives better back then. What we got was a middle finger from the company that single handedly put it out of business. Just wow at how bad it is.

Gotta make jokes about social media so we can get that zoomer viewership!! Those kids were never going to care and do you know you might have gotten them to care? By trying to make a good show.

Superstore, office, Brooklyn 99, Abott elementary...etc. All high tier comedies about a work place cause guess what....its easy to relate to those since thats what we do most of our lives! Plus put the BB brand in and the potential was there, they just didnt put any effort, besides the actors, but the dialogue is so bad its like trying to save the titanic.

Plus a cast member of possibly the best sitcom of all time

It was absolutely awful. Conversations about Netflix and Tiktok in a show about Blockbuster? Who is this even for.

Same. That's dumb. Oh well, guess I don't have to watch it now. Lol

The Last Blockbuster twitter account is funny. If the show was like that it would be great. Otherwise yeah a nostalgia show would have gone down better.

Instead it's a clean cut sitcom with a bunch of social media references and attempts to appeal to zoomers.

I wanted to like the show. As you said, it had all the pieces for another hit like Superstore. Heck, Melissa Fumero's character is basically a blend of Jonah and Amy.

But the actual Blockbuster store takes a backseat to the obligatory forced romance/shipping plot that sitcoms have to have. Even in the pilot episode they are trying to get the two leads together in a will they/won't they plot. They rushed too quickly into that. They don't have any chemistry and I have no reason to root for them.

And the background character lines feel too forced, like they are just waiting to deliver them cause the script calls for it. The first scene of the show is a customer dealing with a breakup and every character has to get their two cents in within those first two minutes. It's not funny, just cringey.

I'm hopeful this show pulls a Parks and Rec and finds their groove after a lame first season. It really just needs some plotlines that better use the actual setting of the store instead of generic crap no one cares about. The only laugh I've gotten so far was the quadruple date.

Lead actor can't act. None of the jokes are funny.

It's so weird too. There's like 4 Blockbuster employees standing around in a tiny store talking to the one customer about Netflix algorithms. None of it is relatable.

It's like they forgot the purpose of a workplace comedy is to make jokes about the experience of being an employee within a workplace.

I think overall the problem is nothing all that interesting happened in video stores even during their peak lol. It's just people picking a movie. Maybe people being disappointed when the new release is completely out.

A workplace comedy in a strip mall that featured a video rental store to show how dated it is would have been the better way to go if they wanted it to be modern.

Netflix doing a bad show about Blockbuster after Blockbuster had failed to acquire Netflix in its infancy would be like if a Sony made a bad game about the Wii U.

Better off doing the show as if it was the early-mid 2000s just prior to streaming taking over.

a modern show about a blockbuster is about as logical as an actual blockbuster operating in 2022.

That wouldve been a good idea. From the peak all the way to an emotional last season finale where they close down. Dammit....they had it soooo eaassy. It feels like the show was written by zoomers fresh out of school
