We all live in the same world, yes? A world where money rules and invariably corrupts all? yes indeed.

Now, imagine an entity as powerful, controlled and corrupted as the US Government pooling together a billion dollars and handing it to one individual because he got lucky.

This should sound like a complete fairy tale to anyone and everyone, and yet people still fire their money at scams like the powerball, megamillions etc drawings.

Every single number combination sold is in a database, bar none. Rig a machine to pick a number combo not sold, have some bullshit identity win it, bang. Millions on millions for the mob, no one to stop them.

The idea that these major fortune jackpots are won by John Doe and its actually given to him is hilarious. Zero chance it happens.

The lottery makes an enormous amount of income even accounting for the payoff. If you can't point to winners, then there would not be trust in the lottery. And because the odds of winning are so low, they simply don't need to make up additional fake winners because the handful that do succeed is enough. And finally, it's not like 1000 people can hit a billion in a row and bankrupt the government. The jackpot increases based on the amount people have paid into the pot.

But people do win big all the time

You don't even need to rig a machine to pick numbers others have.
The numbers are always in the house's favor.
