I'm a pretty casual Bayo player. I'm decent enough to normally get golds and the occasional platinum ranks for chapters but I'm looking to get better in this one.

So far the gameplay is good old Bayonetta fun. There's new mechanics like being able to summon the demons mid fight to do massive damage. There's also a parry you can do. Press the demon summon button as the enemy hits you to parry them.

My issue so far is the gimmicks. There's waaaay too much gimmicky shit so far and I'm only onto chapter 4. I have no issues with gimmicks but the problem is here they aren't fun and they control like shit. The one that plays like a 2d fighter/paper scissors rock is just tedious.
And i hate to say it. I really do. But the looks like shit at worst and sub par at best. I think the previous Bayo games had great art direction so it made for the shortcomings. Here so far I've just been running around generic looking Japanese cities and it looks like something from a launch ps3 title.

The music is great. The new voice actress for Bayo is perfect. I wouldn't have known it was a different actress it wasn't for the controversy.

Also this is more a personal issue.. but the story does this whole multiverse thing which these days I find incredibly tired and bland.

Overall it feels less polished than Bayo 2 which I'd call the peak of character action games. Not that far into it though.

Not a fan of how sluggish the demon puppets are. So far I find the bioweapons pretty uninspiring. They're much less interesting to tear apart than biblical angels. The story seems needlessly convoluted which is so strange when this series has the simplest characters. This was again an area they perfected already in 2 IMO.

The performance is frustrating. Moving around in the big areas feels choppy sometimes which is a sin for a game like this.

This all sounds very negative but I am glad Bayonetta is back. The prolog cutscene with Enzo and Rodin was awesome. Just not warmed up to the new stuff. They're really gonna have to do some spectacular stuff to win me over.

I'm worried about if I'll like Viola, I don't find her super likable so far, kinda lol'd at her character description page that reads like an OC. she did that dumbass trope in the pre-prologue of getting someone else killed by acting like an idiot in a serious situation. Bad first impression.
