Seriously, I was waiting for some big reveal like maybe Keanu Reeves got 2 scoops of ice cream while everyone else got 1, but no it just looks like he wanted to make a random dig at Keanu because he probably think he's a bad actor. Perry continues later on, River was a beautiful man, inside and out too beautiful for this world, it turned out. It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down. Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us? River was a better actor than me; I was funnier. But I certainly held my own in our scenes no small feat, when I look back decades later.
Keanu Reeves is cited again when Perry writes about the death of comedian Chris Farley. His disease had progressed faster than mine had. (Plus, I had a healthy fear of the word heroin, a fear we did not share), Perry writes. I punched a hole through Jennifer Anistons dressing room wall when I found out. Keanu Reeves walks among us. I had to promote Almost Heroes two weeks after he died; I found myself publicly discussing his death from drugs and alcohol. I was high the entire time.

It's definitely a joke. It's such a random person to pick on.

It's a Gen X trope that it's cool to hate Keanu Reeves because he is supposedly a terrible actor who somehow became more famous and in demand than he had any right to be. The height of Keanu Reeves hatred was when he was cast in "Brahm Stoker's Dracula." Furthermore, the good-natured chill that endeared Reeves to younger generations was what turned off alot of Gen X to him back in the day. He was thought of as an airhead.

This hatred would seem alien to younger generations. I myself find Perry still dumping on Reeves to be cringy and anachronistic. It's like, come on dude, the joke is old. Everyone else your age has already grown out of this decades ago. You're no longer in your twenties.

I know he's typecast as a "Badass Action Hero" like you said, but I thought he was great in the Devil's Advocate (and that was what, over 20 years ago?). I mean, obviously, Pacino steals the spotlight, but Keanu played his role well. I don't know why Keanu is considered a sub-par actor among critics. He's came a long way since Bill and Ted.
