Accept the debate maybe be able to hold his own

His aphasia is pretty bad. Fortunately most stroke victims who suffer from aphasia do show improvement over time. Unfortunately most Americans are incredibly ableist so his performance here will probably held against him.

At this point I'm trying to understand if his mental faculties are intact but the transition from thought to speech is what's messed up. He very well could be thinking clearly but when he tries to speak his thoughts they just come out wrong.

That was proven when Trump's "Then you'd be in jail" line basically won him all of his debates with Clinton in the eyes of centralists and republicans and even some democrats years ago. We are not a critical thinking electorate, we vote based on who has the best lines and looks the best on that stage.

I stopped after about 35 minutes. I couldn't watch anymore. I knew it would be bad when his camp put out a statement today trying to lower expectations.

Dude has still 100 percent got my vote but he isn't recovered enough for a debate yet. I feel bad for him.

It's unbelievable that his team let him go out and do this debate. Being called a coward too afraid to debate is better than going out there and proving that you should have dropped out immediately following your stroke.

This performance isn't going to convince me that Oz isn't a huge grifting piece of shit that wants to ban abortion and ran his campaign on transphobia and fighting drugs despite being one of the leading snake oil salesman of the past decade.

I voted already in PA and this doesn't change my opinion, even if it appears to have looked bad for Fetterman. I believe Fetterman is intelligent but because of his stroke things come out wrong. He's a smart guy. His poor performance here doesn't really make me regret it, because the other option is a guy I do not agree with the vast majority of the time. Fetterman's stroke symptons aren't somehow going to make me like the Dr. Oz platform all of a sudden.

Come on, man... that's a basic expectation of anyone in a position power. Medical condition or no, it's not a good look. Innocent gaffes tank votes, and this guy can't string together a coherent sentence.

Policy wise, Fetterman is the better choice -- but it won't matter if he can't communicate those policies coherently because it calls into question his mental faculties, and does a pretty good job of making them glaringly obvious.

Mate, chalk and cheese. Was Hawking's communication hamstrung by his computer to the point where he is incapable of stringing together a coherent sentence? No. In fact, having one would probably help Fetterman since he'd be looking/pointing at the words rather than trying to count on his innate recall for language which is clearly broken from his stroke. Does this mean he's incapable of writing it or reading it, or performing his role to standard insofar as office is concerned, not speaking? No, not at all; because it's verbal recall that's affected, not written.
But, ultimately, no matter which way you want to cut it, it's not a good look. Any reasonable person would have little to no confidence in someone who's incapable of speaking clearly.
