Doors were locked, school has metal detectors and 7 security guards from what I read.

A guy with a gun gained entry into a school with intent to kill. I think you understand how much worse it could have been. Doesn't mean it was good, but could have been worse

So there was a funeral a block away from the school where a service was going to be held for a cop that killed herself a week before. Due to this there was a ton of cops in the immediate area able to quickly respond.

First responders were plain clothes cops that went in with only their sidearms and neutralized the threat.

Its sad that the progress being made is that at least the police are actually stopping them a bit more quickly

Yes, this is why it's clear that these are not preventable as long as guns are readily available to almost anyone that wants one.

The parents knew something was wrong with him. They committed him to an institution, monitored his medication etc.
The mom learned he had a gun and called the cops because she didn't want him to own it in her house. Cops took the gun and gave it to another family member. Somehow he got it back and used it in the school shooting. What else could the parents/cops have done here?
