I'm basically in the same boat but I'm 31. I finally have a job where I can sock some money away, but I'm postponing moving back out because otherwise my debt will just sit there.

You can do it! I know it's really rough, rental prices (and everything) is wildly unchecked and out of control. Yes inflation, but lots of greed, too. Getting roommates can help a ton, but its important to move in with people you trust and can live with. Living with someone changes relationship dynamics significantly, regardless if stranger, friend, or significant other.

I feel that same way for the same reasons. They just don't want people to live.

Move away from the city, or quit bitching about it. That's the only way you're going to get around it.

Well, the US guide for employment and living suggest that 35% of your paycheck be spend on your rent / mortgage

If the average rent in your area is 2000 a month, then OBVIOUSLY the government thinks you must be earning $6000/mo, right?

Not surprised the maga guy thinks this is a solution. "Get a better job", "find a cheaper place to live", this advice just makes you look like an asshole on an individual level and, more importantly, it does not scale. Cities need groceries and restaurants and other stuff like that and those jobs pay poorly. It's ironic that the only people who can afford to live in a lot of cities now are rich white collar folks who don't contribute anything, while the people who actually make it function are getting shafted. You don't see something systemically wrong with that?

Also a lot of outlying areas are barely more affordable than the city. There is a widening wealth gap in this country and sometimes there is really just little to no escaping unaffordable living situations. Just because some people are able to get out of it does not mean we can just collectively "individual responsibility" our way out of it. Our system is not designed for all people to prosper. You'd have to be a fool to think that this collective wealth disparity has no bearing on quality of life outcomes

I mean, there is another way, but the price of guillotine blades has also skyrocketed lately.

Not that "just move" is a realistic solution for anyone with a non-remote job anyway. For most fields, you can't just find a job in whatever backwater town you can actually afford to live in, multi-hour commutes come with their own significant costs (costs that only stand to increase if more people start doing them, due to increased demand), and the vast majority of North American cities simply don't have the infrastructure to support that many people commuting. "Just move" is a hilariously myopic take on the issue that shows just how out of touch you are with how much the housing and job markets have changed since even just five years ago.
