i found a 2016 Rav4 for an affordable price and a good service history. i "bought" it with a delivery of 2 weeks from then thinking this would be a great experience

it was not

a week before, they messaged me saying it passed all their standards and was ready to be delivered

2 days before they called me saying that they're excited for my delivery date and it was defintely coming on time

but wait

the car was in arizona, shipping up to california. 2 weeks is PLENTY of time to get it up there. but then... why did carfax report that it was for sale in Utah????

WELL

Less than 24 hours before my scheduled delivery, they tell me it needs an emissions test.
1) cars less than 6 years old dont need an emissions test. it does not need an emissions test.
2) the service history says it passed an emissions test 2 months ago

customer service says "oh well we just want to make sure its up to our standards"
so what was that text 1 week ago that said it was up to their standards?

i couldn't get an answer from them. i asked when it was going to be done and they said sometime in the next month.

so i canceled, callled up Carmax and reserved a great car. fuck Carvana and FUCK Carvana.

Yeah they delayed on my delivery a few times. I just waited patiently. Not ideal but whatever.

Carvana is a terrible and shady company to buy from and no one should. I did have a great experience selling to them though. So great that it felt suspicious and it's clear they didn't do any due diligence on my car.

Ive been seeing a lot of stories like this about delays caused by emissions tests

Carmax is way better. May be more expensive but youre generally going to get a quality vehicle that was actually inspected properly

I worked for Carvana. Customer service.

Don't buy a car from them. Their inspection centers are fucking trash and they just push that shit through. Then I had to deal with all the customers dealing with their shit cars. Customer service reps aren't even allowed to call the inspection centers. We had to go through email and they rarely ever responded. It was a nightmare.

Get this. I had to help a customer, I forgot the exact reason, but he had to go through what's called a delayed backout(meaning he was out of his 7dmbg period). Iirc he got a vehicle with a shit transmission, and he went through all the hoops and loops to get legitimately looked at. I spent 6 goddamn months with this dude trying to get him right and what does Carvana do? They fucking let me go(few months later after their stock tanked they let a bunch of other people go). I was able to get him into a new car, but I don't know if he ever got it delivered because of being let go. Shit's fucked up.

Best thing I did was sell all the company stock I got from them before at 157 before it tanked to w.e it is now.

the entire market is FUCKED right now. i seen a 2022 Rav4 hybrid lxe $15k over MSRP USED!!!

Thanks. I will say it was a nice to work for them. They paid well, and had legitimately good benefits, and some customer service reps will really try fucking hard to set things right. Bottom line is that their inspection center and process is a load of garbage. At the beginning, I think they did offer really quality used vehicles, but then they exploded right before the pandemic, and even more so during the pandemic.

They got big way too fast, corners being cut, quality being quick and loose. They say they take our complaints seriously(Customers and employees) but it all stems from the same shit. The inspection centers. And since we couldn't get a hold of those fuckers, and we couldn't actually see the vehicle, what they were doing, how they were getting "passes" it was just bad.

So yeah, take it from me. Don't buy from them.
