Almost wish I had saved the Vantage scroll for her, but Olwen needed it just as much.

Vantage nullifies Wrath, so it's a good thing you didn't.

OK wait so does that mean with Olwen's Dire Thunder, which is a Brave weapon, her enemy phase retaliation now is;

Vantage Counter -> Enemy Attack-> Wrath Counter?

Because she's still critting every single second counter.

Olwen's PCC is 4, so if she has a base crit rate of 25 or more, she'll always crit on the second attack. Dire Thunder gives 10 crit on its own, and Leif gives another 10 if he's nearby. Every point of skill is +1 to crit, so if she has a high skill stat, that's why she's critting every time.

Xavier's actually pretty solid for a lategame general. Helps that he's got a decent bow rank so he was my Brave Bow user in the endgame. If he didn't have the worst recruitment in the series, I might even call him a good unit.

Leif leveling quickly and scrolls mean you can turn him into a complete monster, like this:

It's too bad there's not that much combat to use him on, but it was fun to break him like this. If only they kept the unpromoted exp thing for Roy, maybe he'd be able to leverage the Binding Blade into becoming decent at the endgame.

Also, another thing that I forgot to mention last night is that the new patch totally breaks that map with the ability to reposition units. It's much easier when you can just put all of your high move units at the bottom instead of having to mess with your deployment order so you can get the right people at the bottom.

I have a feeling that was supposed to be hard, but it was an absolute steamroll. I didnt have to defend shit, just ran in and obliterated. Should really thank the enemies for opening those doors and busting those walls.

The fact that positioning wasn't supposed to be in this game is quite clear when some slots just straight up don't exist if you aren't full deploying.

Also of note, I promoted Brighton and Tini! There's only one character I may want to promote still, Faerghus, if I get another Master Seal.

Brighton went....fucking nutso this chapter. I promoted him in the chapter at the very beginning, when he was unmounted, and all he had was a Longsword. Obviously he crits on enemy phase, but he also crit every single time he attacked in player phase. What a champion. D rank sword and he's a master of the blade.

Those guys having weapons is the goofiest part of that chapter.

That chapter is more of a defeat boss chapter with an extra fail condition than an actual defend chapter. Though it was nice of those dark mages to bring some more unlock staves for Tina.

There is another Master Seal coming up if you let someone get captured for 21x, but you're about to get Dermott. I don't know how good your Fergus is, but Dermott might be able to fill in for him.

Maybe I'll give a randomizer a shot, never done one of them.

I saw Dermott in the cutscene before I had to save for now, if he still has Charm then that question answers itself!

Definitely a bit bullshit, but I think I made it harder on myself by picking all high magic units for the bolting and having two of them who couldn't equip any weapons because they were light locked (I will have things to say about magic and staves when I am done)

Another Master Seal though, and with Faerghus benched it means I get to promote the unit I decided to arena grind last chapter up from his base, unused level to 20, with Salem! A magic user who has basically no luck gain whatsoever but seems like he's pretty easily going to cap defense is an interesting unit.

Friends in Discord arguing about whether I should go out of my way NOT to do 24x when I get there, and that's a little foreboding....

24x is uh... almost certainly the worst designed chapter in FE, yeah. There's really not much room for debating that, even as someone that really likes FE5.

I'm curious now, just because the argument seems to be that it would legitimately be detrimental to the experience, and whether it's more important to see everything or not. It's wierd seeing it talked about and have nooooooo idea what the problem is, lol.

If it were a normal RPG, it would be as simple as "well I won't do this lame sidequests", but an FE map with plot is much more significant, hell there was a big plot thing at the end of 21x just now....but if it's REAL fucked, there's no way to skip it if I unlock it, however that is done.

My advice if you do it is just be very liberal with save states.

Eliwood as Serra is kind of hilariously fitting as well (and yes, Hector randomized into himself, though he's a nomad)

There's some major plot stuff at the end of 24x, so if that matters to you I wouldn't skip it. But tcaz is right, though I'd say it's got competition for the worst from a lot of the gimmicky nonsense in Fates, mostly the stuff in Revelation.

One hasn't really experienced FE5 if they haven't experienced 24x. >_>

Well I've got all these quality of life features so may as well put them through their paces!

That's still 4 or more chapters away though if there are any other Xs, so getting ahead of myself.

Salem's the guy who started the tradition of dark magic users being good for stuff unrelated to dark magic. He's a solid staffbot in a game where staffbots are OP. He's probably even more valuable for you since you missed out on Sleuf and Amalda. As a combat unit, it's a good thing he can use Anima magic, because oh boy is dark magic useless in this game.

Is Jormungand that bad? Outside of the arena he's only used it twice and it hit pretty hard.
