I've forgotten several of the RD characters even exist multiple times over the course of the years.

Plus there's several characters from PoR I'd like to have more supports of because of the 3 year time skip and their changed positions in life.

I legit didn't remember Kyza at all in Radiant Dawn, but they got retconned as non-binary when they got brought over to FE Heroes.

OK well I definitely remember this story beat...and that's about it, other than fighting the Black Knight near the end.

Bonus EXP, sitting in a hot 1490. I could give some to Nia, but IIRC she's very bad in this game and if I want to use her it should be in RD. I'll just hold off on using any for now.

I think this was the case for every FE game until Awakening.

Went in confident but ended up with 63. Definitely feel very stupid about some of the ones I missed.

While double Earth isn't as busted here as it is in Radiant Dawn, it's still a really good support. The only problem with it is that it's a little difficult to keep Ike and Oscar in support range.

Even after plying all these games in a row I have still never looked into nor do I have any idea what character elements do or why they matter, lol.

As implied, they give different support bonuses when within support range. Characters get both their own and their partners affinity bonuses.

Supports will give characters some combination of Attack, Defense, Hit Rate, and Evade. Earth, for instance, is just straight Evade, 5% per rank (so 15% at max), so it's really good for faster frontliners like Ike and Oscar. Both Ike and Oscar are Earth affinity, so they both get +30% Evade from being within range of each other at A Rank.

Another example would be if you support Boyd (Fire) and Mist (Water). Fire gives 1.5 Attack and 7.5 Hit, while Water gives 1.5 Attack and 1.5 Defense. So Boyd and Mist would both get 3 Attack, 1 Defense, and 7% Hit (decimals are always rounded down), which makes Boyd hit harder and more often while letting him frontline a bit better because of his low Def, but does very little for Mist usually.

That said, you really don't need to care that much outside of higher difficulties or challenge style runs (ironmans, low turn count, etc)

Ahhhhh OK, that's actually really cool! I'm not really about the high difficulty runs and such (I beat 3H on Maniac but that was on NG+++ so absolutely does NOT count I assume), but it's still seems like a cool system.

This map is kind of fucked!

I've had to restart twice, feels like a trap to make you spend your Bexp.

Mia is...very weak, but I ain't falling for it.

I am however giving Titania the poleaxe to devour the bottom of the path. I have Boyd doing it as seen below but he was getting doubled by swords and it wasn't gonna happen.

Survived the first 2 turns hell. Mia the shovebot staying out of combat. Trick was to send Titania south with the poleaxe and Boyd right with the hammer, then SWAP them on turn 2.

Almost went to hell with a Poleaxe attacking Oscar, but he dodged like a champ.

Boyd got a FULL STAT LEVEL UP.

That's one of the stellar defend maps I mentioned. It's both well-designed and hard, and it represents a pivotal story point.

Wooh, exhausting but fun! Cleaned up pretty nicely. Thank god that last reinforcement was just for story purposes. Everyone was feeling the hurt, and Illyana was out there in no man's land.

Can't see myself using Mia, sadly. I like her! Maybe next time. Not sure about Illyana either, will see how that goes.

Illyana is quite good in PoR IMO though Soren usually ends up being better anyway. Sadly she gets nerfed to hell in RD due to thunder magic sucking in that game though she does have one of the best availabilities to sort of make up for it.

I always use Mia because I like her a lot but sadly yeah she's just not that good compared to the other Swordmasters in the game. She's usable if you put in a bit of effort training her early or dump BEXP on her though she can get Str screwed fairly easily, but the other two are just better on average. Though its hard to justify using any of them in Maniac mode because Swordmasters and Berserkers don't get extra crit there which nerfs them into nearly unusable status.

She is much better in RD.

I knew about Mia, and if I'm remembering correctly Nephenee, being not great in this game because they're really popular characters who are also bad, but people use them anyways.

My vague memories from back in the day make me think I was all in on Nephenee, but I can't distinguish if that was 9 or 10.

Magic in general sucks in RD. Soren and Micaiah are the only ones worthwhile. Sanaki too but she's endgame.

Yeah, you could BEXP dump Mia, but Marcia makes much better use of that, plus Boyd and Oscar want some too. RD redeems her, where she might just be the best Swordmaster in the game.

I remember Nephenee being alright in PoR. Used her and didn't have any problems.

They want a little help along the way to level 21, since you're going to want to save the few promotion items you do get for people who struggle to get there, namely Rhys or Mist.

I figured units like Rhys or Mist where the ones who should be getting the Bexp in the first place, huh! Though if they're early prompting anyways that makes sense.

What's the money situation in this game? Would it be nuts to give a +5 Mt Iron Sword to Mia if I want to try and use her anyways? Costs 3910 and I have 10k after selling the red gem from last chapter.

I would appreciate Chapter 8 more if it didn't come so quickly on the heels of Chapter 5. Conceptually, I can appreciate "let's do that again without Gatrie (and Shinon)" as a way of showing how their departure has hurt the Greil Mercenaries, but gameplaywise I simply do not find it enjoyable.

It's too bad that Mist and Rolf don't join until Ch9. It'd make sense for them to force-deploy in Ch8 instead; just move Mist's portion of the end of chapter cutscene to the start, and give Rolf a line. They'd both be more useful there than they are in Ch9. And, between them and Mia/Ilyana, you would actually get to use more characters in Chapter 8 than you did in Chapter 5.

Nephenee has shaky start and develops into a competent, if unexciting, infantry combatant. Of course, FE9 has full Canto and lots of snowball-capable, so "generic infantry" is not a valuable niche.

Mia is a swordlocked character in an enemy-phase-heavy game, 'nuff said.

What's the money situation in this game?

Forging extra Might onto items with very low base Might (such as Light tomes) can be absurdly expensive. Other than that, money should not be a concern.

HMMMMM, it's actually 300g lower to bring the Steel sword DOWN to 7 Wt and bump it up to 10 Mt to match a +5 Mt Iron Sword, but then the Hit is 75 instead of 90.

Chapter was a bit tedious, I hate sand! I didn't make it to the first house, but my level up growths were too fantastic to reset.

Marcia is absolutely going to need an EXP pump.

I vaguely recall Rolf actually working out for me when I put effort in to train him. But like, even then he was just a standard infantry archer, so. Questionable value at best.

I hope this game has at least one archer who isn't either a baby or a piece of Beorc Garbage.

Oh BTW I COMPLETELY forgot how the Laguz work, I hope it's not as rough as it seems because I really wanna use Lethe.

They're OK. My memory of using Lethe is that she's basically like trading one deployment slot for killing ~3 enemies effortlessly at the start of the chapter. The slower transforming laguz like Mordecai I never bothered with.

Rolf is fine if you train him usually. But yeah, he's 'just' fine.

EDIT: Laguz aren't amazing in PoR honestly. They're a bit better in RD. Lethe is the only one I consider useable without the demi-band that makes them permanently transformed with stat penalties for doing so. Both tigers you get are pretty good with that, though.

This is excepting Reyson of course who is basically a flying super dancer.

Lethe and Janaff are kinda useful since they start the map transformed. Muarim or Ulki with the demi-band kinda works, but they aren't the greatest.

I usually hate when Anima is split up, but that's because trying to level around it was always a joke (lol Thracia), but here they're giving me all the tomes right from the get go so it seems viable.

Been trying to pick one for over 10 minutes. I forged a lance for Oscar but that's going straight on Marcia, so like...anither Lance for Oscar? A lighter tome for Illyana? A better hand axe for Boyd, or a better javelin for Oscar later as his Shirt Spear dwindles?

I wouldn't worry about weapon EXP on your Mages. Forged Thunder is the best tome overall, and that's E rank. Meanwhile, Calill joins with enough weapon ranks to use any siege tome at base.

You'll probably want to use everything at least a bit for magic since the different types of magic are effective against different Laguz. That said, you'll probably want to focus one or two per mage just so you can use the better tomes like the long range ones (which each element has one of).

That said yeah its not really much of a concern in general.
