This stuff is why if Republicans win, even if I'm in a state with protections for us in the state constitution, I'm still screwed. Sure, it won't pass right now, but this is one of those things they do as a promise for their voters if they get ahold of the house and senate.

For those of you ready to slide in here with "lol no they didn't". Here's the simple break down.

This bill defines being transgender, yes just BEING transgender, as "sexual".

And the goal of the bill is to "protect children from sexual material".

Will it likely pass in this House? No. Will it pass in the next House? Kinda hard to say but even if it passes then, it'd likely die in the Senate.

Will states adopt this language for their own bills? Oh you betcha.

How much more evidence of Republican-endorsed fascism will we need before we remove these people from office?

So by the way, because this defines simply being transgender as a sexual thing, and because it bans federal funding to government programs and hospitals that allow any potential sexual exposure to minors? It means that trans people will be kicked out of offices and hospitals to remain in compliance. So this is very explicitly a genocidal bill as it renders life impossible.

This stuff is why I tell people I won't be accepting a republican governor for Oregon regardless of what the vote results are.

Not yet based off the writing for this law. However, it is pretty obvious the next step is to begin charging people for any and all sexual exposure to minors.

Keep in mind that it took less than 4 years for Russia to go from enacting their "nobody's allowed to spread positive messages about lgbt people" to "the UN decries the genocide of gay men in Chechnya" stuff because of those laws.

Soon, that type of sexual material won't be allowed in public either. What if a child happened to see them and...uhhh, idk.

Oh they are 100% going to try. There are already similar things like child abuse charges for gender affirming care.

I seriously don't understand the whole "GOP is for the children" when every school shooting sees them turn a blind eye to dead children right in their own neighborhood.

Correct. "Cutting off federal funding" is always the starting point for movements begun at the federal level. Everyone uses it, including for laws preventing against discrimination.

After that follows state-based funding, and then actual criminality.

The intent is pretty clear.

By the way I can't remember if it's related to that Idaho bill or whatever but some state is trying to pass a law that would make it so any medical personnel, teachers, counselors, or parents who do anything to affirm the gender identity or aid in the transition of a minor... uh, they'd be jailed for life.

Oh sure, it serves a very similar function to Germany's 1935 Nuremberg laws. It essentially codifies legal ways to discriminate against trans people. My advice is always the same as it has been. Arm yourself, organize and train within your community and your allies because state sanctioned violence is the end goal.

We don't even jail doctors for even to close life for killing someone through gross medical negligence.

Even if you are ignorant and twisted enough to think it's immoral and criminal I don't know how you can think life in prison would be an appropriate sentence.
