Bayonetta 1+2 COMBINED barely sold more than 2m copies, with 2 selling less than 1 and was basically a flop til it was rereleased on switch.

People deadass saying Bayonetta was a half bil franchise when trying to argue about Taylor being "underpaid".

The reason people are saying that the games alone have sold half a billion dollars is because Helena said that in the video.

I have no idea where she got that number.

I don't think the 500 million stat is impossible when you're talking about;
- 7 versions of Bayonetta 1
- 2 versions of Bayonetta 2
- The anime movie
- Two rounds of Smash Bros DLC
- Amiibos
- Other merch and limited editions

Maybe some other stuff I'm forgetting. They've got a lot out of those two games so far.

My guess is she got the figure from the audition papers. Seems like something a PR company would write to me. From what I remember the quote was franchise not game sales.

Those stats don't really indicate a crazy level of success considering either. Halo 3 alone brought in $300 million on launch week and those types of figures have increased a lot since then. This $500 million is for a franchise that has been around for 14 years now.

I mean it's clearly successful if Nintendo keeps funding sequels. Remember it was pretty much dead after a single game until they saved it.
