They are making zero games. They are letting other people make the games.

I wonder what actually triggered this comeback of horror games lately. Was it Capcom with RE7 and RE2 Remake?

They most likely helped kick it off at least, horror kinda slowly started building up again over the years tbh

Geez, get over yourself
You, the sole enlightened Capcom fan among them all, might not be happy with what they're putting out. But it's clear that they've been improving their reputation over the years thanks to them actually listening to a lot of their fan's feedback and putting out/developing games that most of them seem to really like as a result.

Because journalists and contemporary playerbases will leap on anything except whatever the current designated outrage is. Whatever the current designated outrage is will be forgiven completely the second the devs finally start doing something about it, or succeed despite itself.

Gacha shit dead set on fostering gambling editions is well received by its communities, Diablo Immortal is a big hit among the whale community, F2P FOMO models hook 'fans' in who'll get defensive of those games, games with no replay value and excessive focus on anything except gameplay get unconditional praise because a streamed shrieked and rebounded in manufactured fear enough. The Overwatch 2 debacle has failed to shake a number of people, people defend the DMC remake and when they start talking gameplay you can see the wheels come off, gameplay depth doesn't cross their mind yet they stay vehement, somehow even Sticker Star's backlash has regressed into a mere divide in the community.

You put a little hype or a streamer in front of anything and people will buy it. Buying things is how you be hip, the catharsis of swiping the credit card does something to a lot of these people. It doesn't have to be good, it just has to be shiny.

I think you will buy anything and leap to its defence so instead of giving you the 2010s Capcom lineup and insulting them I'm wondering if throwing the 00s lineup at you and being positive about them might explain a bit compared to what we have now. This is a little odd but call it a hail mary.

00s (or around that time) Capcom. The best dev. The best.
Capcom vs SNK 2: Lots of characters, has the ratio system, good music, has a bunch of fighting styles you can pick from. Free novelty for being a crossover. Never got a third game. Huh.
Street Fighter 3: This is the one with the parries that people go crazy over. Health bars are short and exchanges are fast. Different to SF2 and SF4.
Street Fighter 4: This was a great game with 40-something characters, a lot of different gameplay styles, you even got good variety between people playing the same characters because of all the FADC/EX/super meter options.
MVC2: If you wanted a chaos simulator where balance went out the window, skill ceilings were high and bragging rights were up for grabs, 00s Capcom had your back.
UMVC3: This is a 2011/2 game but I consider it the culmination of 00s Capcom. MVC2 was about going high or low, this one's about going left or right. Roster is god tier. The idea was to overwhelming your opponent with heinous strats.

Resident Evil 4: Reinvented the series, made it about action instead of walking away from things. People got invested because some are ride or die about which gun they like to this day, mercs mode in this is a lot of fun to play but slightly tainted by how drastically combo bonus timers out-perform regular combos. This game's really funny. Fun to quote. It's a great game for unlockables too, unlockable weapons and OP upgrades for lots of regular weapons. Instead of discouraging you from engaging enemies, you're encouraged to knock them over and take the ammo they curiously possess. There are giant cave trolls and also Krauser's in it (and you can play as him in mercs)
Resident Evil 5: Take most things good about RE4 and turn them up. This game's REALLY funny. It has co-op, unlockable weapons are even better, there's an entire melee moveset with some generous hitboxes and some plaga-defusing properties. Co-op mercs is beautiful. The best minigame ever. This is the game where Wesker went from boring James Bond scientist to coolest guy in the world. In 4 Leon backtalks, eyerolls and laughs at the world around him. Chris does not wink at the camera, he does his part to enhance RE5's ridiculousness. It's great.

Megaman Zero series: We got a bunch of MM games in the 00s, X7 was meh and while I liked X8 people seem kind of divided on it. Zero though, they took the fun part of X4-6 and gave him his own game with all the extra weapons and customisation focused in on him.
Mega Man ZX/Advent: Looks similar to MMZ but this isn't simply your average 2010s Capcom rehash. In these one you're a newer model of reploid, so basically a shapeshifter. Instead of only weapons, they've got you collecting what amount to robot souls that let you morph into characters from the Zero series. They also let you straight up turn into the bosses. Never got a third game. Hmm...
Mega Man 9: I love this game. They took everything they knew about making old MM games and after all that time, they sat down and made pretty much the best one ever. They got the music perfect, all the weapons have a use and a few go above and beyond. It wasn't broke, they fixed it anyway and somehow it was actually for the best.

Dead Rising 1: This game rules. New IP, big, picking up whatever was lying around and fighting with it was fun. Rewards the hell out of optimising, replaying and planning. Survivors can be a pain but escorting them is learnable. You can ditch the story and just play around for three days because while the main plot fails, scoops still spawn in and if I remember right, Simone's is the only one that becomes impossible if you aren't far enough in the story. Also fun to quote. LV50 Frank is a beast.

Devil May Cry: New IP. Gave us Dante and what you'd want from the genre. Less about freestyle, more about being optimal with the style meter goading you into mixing things up.
Devil May Cry 2: A mess. Post-2012 Capcom tier. See below. Some of the cutscenes are really funny at least.
Devil May Cry 3: 2 was so bad that 00s Capcom followed it up with this. This is the best game in the series. Gave us styles, the best weapon lineup, real difficulty, Dante at his coolest and most entertaining, THE VERGIL, loads of replay value. Special edition was the start of a somewhat unfortunate tradition but added the option for a more forgiving checkpoint system and playable Vergil.
Devil May Cry 4: The shit crazy one with the absurd skill ceiling. I took to Nero pretty early on too, his personality didn't bug me and they made him really fun to play. The sense of impact on the moves is the best in the series. The story/world is like 30% done and they knew so we got a gameplay hard carry.

God Hand: New IP. Capcom made Clover Studios, told them to go get inventive and make some good games then turned them loose. This game is gameplay/replay value over story and graphics turned up to a million and it's the best. Wannabe cool guy fights hordes of increasingly stupid shit. Pretty much everything has a great sense of impact.
Okami: I don't really like this game and perhaps shouldn't be bringing it up but it shows Capcom used to be able to come up with something different and throw it out there. They'd do that. They tried throwing Zack and Wiki out there, Tatsunoko vs Capcom had its niche, Phoenix Wright was odd but did pretty well.
Viewtiful Joe: New IP. Oh yeah it's uh pretty great actually. You get to do the RED HOT KICK.
Viewtiful Joe 2: They turn the difficulty up and give you a second character. The entire last world on Ultra V-Rated difficulty might be happiness in video game form.
Viewtiful Joe 3: The last unturned stone. The one. The second sequel to One. The Voomerang that has yet to find its way back. The game that's using the slow and zoom VFX powers on its entire creation process. The 00s Capcom game that never was. One day, as sure as the endless waits for SSBB and MVC3 eventually ended, it will appear before us in all its viewtiful vaporware glory.

I think you will buy anything and leap to its defence
I'm not even that big of a Capcom fan. The one IP I'm legitimately a huge fan of is Rival Schools (and Viewtiful Joe to an extent) and the last time we got one of those was 20+ years ago (I literally only bought SFV JUST to play as Akira). But go off.

[The rest of your post]
Cool. A list of stuff you like/appreciate. Just like how you adore all those games, there are plenty of people who similarly enjoy/appreciate the newer games Capcom is putting out nowadays (and even people who like both if you can believe it!) and, guess what? That's perfectly fine.
I will say, I do hope your wish for Viewtiful Joe 3 comes true one day. Because I would very much like to see that as well.

Ah. I was kind of hoping you'd go to bat for the 2010s-present lineup.
If you had positives, I'd rather have seen them accentuated than hidden behind the usual bit about how you can find people who'll like anything. I see remakes where I used to see creativity and too many issues to get into where I used to see gameplay.
I think cheering for them because they're successfully pulling money out of the masses is about as self-defeating as it gets...

...But in the end I am indeed looking forward to the husk bearing the name Viewtiful Joe 3 sloppily thrown together by contemporary Capcom - possibly without Kamiya's involvement - that will mark the end, so what do I know?

The point was that at the end of the day it's all subjective and it's okay for people to like things. But seeing that you have the self-awareness of an ironing board, I'm not sure why I bother.

I get that but I want to see some sort of justification or explanation.
I want to either get why the shoddy replacement Capcom's offered us is actually brilliant or hear "It's actually good because gameplay sucks and only graphics are important." so I can say screw it and walk off already.

It's kind of funny because here I am trying to talk about games with alleged game enthusiasts and somehow it's this difficult.
