So I own the Genesis Collection on Switch, before they added Genesis games to this online pass I have no interest in getting.

I look for it in my downloaded library and it's not there. OK, I must have deleted it, right? So I got to the re-download menu...not there. Maybe I'm mistaken, and I don't own this? I got to the store page in the e-shop...nope, says I already bought the game.

My last crazy thought is that it must have converted my purchase into free use of the Switch level Genesis Collection and merged then together. So I download that, go to boot it up....and it's asking me to pay for Switch Expansion pass.

So like....sonething I'm missing here??

I have not heard of any kind of deletion, and this is a product popular enough that it would have been news if it had been. Double check your software list imo

Yep that's the one.

I've checked EVERYTHING. There is no chance it's on my Switch right now and I can't download it.

The only things I can think of are A) They removed the ability to download it or B) It's a bug and I don't actually own it, and can't buy it either.

I guess C) They've removed it from purchasing is also an option, but it does still say I own it.

This happened to me on PS4 before, but never on Switch so I can't really help you. Did you maybe purchase it on another account?

I've checked every conceivable menu.

I would have never realized anything at all if I hadn't saw the collection was on sale on PS4 for $8, realized that I may want to play Phantasy Star II for the first time sometime soon, and checked my account to confirm that yes, I did already have that game on Switch.

Supposedly.

And I can GET Phantasy Star II, it's not like that's a hard game to play, it would take less time to get it on my phone than it took to type this post.

But like...its just bizzare.
